Who do you want in the Kerry Administration?
I won't go thru a big list of all cabinet posts and who I want but I will name a few and invite you to do the same:

Secretary of State: Al Gore
United Nations Ambassador: Jesse Jackson
Secretary of Health and Human Services: Dr. Howard Dean
National Security Advisor: Gen. Wes Clark
Attorney General: John Edwards

2. Bill Richardson or Bob Graham
I think either would be strong--especially Richardson.

23. Oh, I hate to hear that.
I knew that the general consensus was that he probably would not do it, but what you wrote is so much stronger.

9. Except it makes it look like we know Dems are weak on Defense
And we're not!

It's just that we believe it's supposed to be defense, not offense.

10. it's a traditional courtesy done by almost every president.
clinton had cohen as his sec of defense. leon minetta was sec of transportation for bush (until minetta quit out of frustration for working with chimpy). I'm too young to remember who reagan and bush had as their toekn dems.

26. It's a recent "tradition"
A gesture to the polarization that developed during the Clinton years, thanks to the Repubs. You'll notice that Clinton made his SecDef a Repub, but "uniter" Bush only picked Transportation--not exactly a critical position.

Clinton probably did it because he knew he had a problem with the military, being the first president not to have served. So he picked Bobby Ray Inman, a retired admiral. But the Repubs (Dole, specifically) used the media to undermine his nomination--maybe Inman, as a military guy, wasn't partisan enough. Then Clinton picked Bill Cohen, who sailed thru confirmation and did an ok job... UNTIL we went to war in Kosovo, a war the Repubs in Congress did not support. Cohen as SecDef was probably the biggest mistake of Clinton's eight years. Worse than Monica (well, maybe not that).

We're in a war now. The last thing we need in a war is a SecDef from the other party. You don't want every Presidential decision subverted to satisfy the agenda of the opposition. You want bi-partisanship, let it be some mox-nix position like Transportation. Not one of the two most important positions in the cabinet.

16. Horse manure. Kerry threw that bone of a mideast peace envoy
along with Clinton and Carter.

It's Clinton he wants to handle the Mideast. He threw out Baker's name to make the point that Bush2 wasn't handling the mideast policy as well as Bush1.

Geez...turnip trucks abound.

18. Here ya are
State - Wes Clark
Defense - John McCain
NSA - Sam Nunn
Attorney General - Hillary Clinton
Treasury - Bob Rubin
EPA - Robert Kennedy Jr. (if he would do it)
Education - Parris Glendening
Energy - Some vicious environmentalist
HUD - Carol Mosely Braun (and then give he some money and thus, actual power)

Al Gore is kaput, he has shown poor judgement too many times now.

VP - ?

I would like to see Howard Dean and John Edwards in the Senate
I think DK is also best as an elected Representative, Senator if he can swing it

20. RFK for EPA! Totally agree!!!
Dean is good for HHS or surgeon general. Edwards for attorney general. Clark for Defense.

Token Repub for the cabinet? Why should he?

What about Kucinich? Why not follow his lead and make a Dept of Peace with him as its first secretary?

27. Sec. of Defense - Wes Clark
Or even National Security Advisor. It would be a shame not to use Clark's genius and ability to get a job done, and done well.

But I have no thoughts on the other cabinet positions.
