Chelsea Clinton is asked question about Monica Lewinsky
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jG_ha9KFGJhGQg1UI5FzZXidMzxgD8VKM1M85

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Chelsea Clinton had a quick retort Tuesday when asked whether her mother's credibility had been hurt during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton said during a campaign visit for her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Clinton had picked out the male questioner as she wrapped up a question-and-answer session at Butler University. It wasn't immediately clear what statement by the first lady the questioner was referring to. Before she was fully aware of her husband's relationship with Lewinsky, a White House intern, Hillary Clinton said the allegations about that relationship were manufactured by a "vast right-wing conspiracy."

Clinton's answer was met with loud applause from the about 200 people in the audience. After the applause, Clinton responded, "and I also don't think that should be the last question."

She took another question on global warming and wrapped up the event

19. Chelsea 1 - AP 0
AP narrows down the VRWC talk to that one specific complaint. Here's the actual quote:

"Look at the very people who are involved in this. They have popped up in other settings. The great story here for anybody willing to find it, write about it and explain it is this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president," Mrs. Clinton said.

It is our business. Your mother is running for the presidency. You are her daughter. One of her most valuable surrogates. Is this the kind of response we should expect from the Clinton administration when they hear a question they don't like?

There are going to be rude people on the campaign trail Chelsea, you need to take the high road.

42. No it is not your business.
Who someone chooses to have sex with in the privacy of their own home is none of your business, even when their home is the White House. The reaction of a child to the problems of his or her parents' personal lives is none of your business, even when those parents are public figures. The attitude you espouse is exactly why this country's political discourse got dragged into the gutter during the Clinton years. It is not a legitimate question. It is none of your business.

I'm an Obama guy, and even I thought the question was out of place.

However, since the Clintons are very public people (minus Chelsea, to an extent), have been riddled with some scandal and Hillary is running heavily on her husband's accomplishments, the question is not totally out of place.

Nonetheless, it was sleazy and it was also wrong to ask Chelsea. She didn't ask for that.

62. It sucks when candidates and surrogates get rotten questions
but, they need to be prepared to have answers that will be accaptable to more than the choir. That plays well here, but she needs something that is not going to insult the person who asked the question or supporters of the questioner.

Speaking on behalf of a candidate is not easy and it isn't always going to be fun. She should be well prepped and if they are going to send her out there, surely she knows she is bound to run into Lewinsky questions. Not to mention other potential "gate" questions.

Michelle Obama is taking a similar risk. Now she will have Wright questions to deal with.

Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 05:42 PM by powergirl
It's in poor taste. There's an old prosecutor's saying: "If you can win the felony, don't also go for the misdemeanor." You could lose the misdemeanor and weaken your felony case and then lose the entire case. Obama will win this on his own and doesn't need BS questions like this which detract from the issues that matter.

I hope the Clinton supporters here at DU feel the same way I do about some of the attacks that Obama has received from campaign surrogates.

85. Uh, no.

95. To think that the GOP won't rbing this up in the GE is really quite stupid.
Obama won't bring it up because it is unbecoming to a democratic nominee. If only Hillary had half of his restraint.
