LIKE LIMBAUGH, OBAMA ASKS RETHUGS TO SWITCH PARTY'S AND VOTE AGAINST HILLARY IN PA
My comment: Is THIS what we want? Democrats using Rush Limbaugh style tactics to get Republicans to switch parties to against Hillary? Making it acceptable to treat the Democratic Party and platform like a revolving door, to be used for political strategy? Are these people being asked if they believe in our party's platform? NO. Do we know if they support women's rights, choice, gay rights, minority rights, separation of church and state? NO. Do we stand as a party for the civil and human rights of ALL people, or stand for an individual who invites anyone who cares to help use our party system for their own benefit, regardless the damage done by shoving our commitments aside for political convenience? Is THIS the new politics of "CHANGE"?

By Peter Nicholas, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
March 22, 2008
DOYLESTOWN, PA. --

-snip-

Obama trails Hillary Rodham Clinton by a large margin in Pennsylvania, site of the next Democratic presidential contest. The state has a large number of the older and blue-collar voters who tend to back Clinton. Even this month's most favorable poll for Obama shows her leading by 11 percentage points. One poll has her ahead by 26.

For Obama to win the April 22 election, or even to keep the race close, he needs to pull off an extraordinary feat: identifying sympathetic independent and Republican voters, and persuading them to register as Democrats. The registration deadline is Monday.

With time running out, the Obama campaign is engaged in a house-by-house appeal.

-snip-

The Illinois senator hopes to beat such expectations by expanding the pool of Democratic voters.

One night recently, some Obama volunteers in Doylestown set about making calls to find people willing to sign Democratic registration forms. A script provided by the campaign said that if voters were undecided, the callers should note that "Sen. Clinton has said there's a choice in this race. And she's right. It's a choice between a politics that offers more of the same divisions, or a new politics of common purpose."

MY NOTE: OBAMA'S SCRIPT DOES NOT ASK IF PEOPLE SHARE OUR VALUES, PLATFORM. HE'S ASKING FOR VOTES AGAINST HILLARY. TO WHAT "COMMON PURPOSE" IS HE ASKING THEM TO SUBSCRIBE TO? NOW WE ACCEPT LIMBAUGH LIKE TACTICS?

17. what's not focused?
Lula is making the claim that Obama (by the by, calling him "BO" is more than a little juvenile) wants Republicans to vote against Clinton, just (Lula says) like Limbaugh. Fact is, Limbaugh is asking Republicans to vote *for* Clinton.

I'm paying attention, thanks.

Sign me up for that.

Rush asked people to vote FOR hillary SO they could lengthen the primary season and then beat her in the GE.

Wasn't One of Obama's selling points that he could get Republicans to cross over and vote for him the way Reagan got Democrats to vote Republican?

Not to mention the other poster above is right. Flush has been telling people to vote for Hillary. So I am not seeing the "Limbaugh like tactics"

29. So Americans should stay divided no matter what the cause?
Thats a strange way to look at things, I would be glad if people were sick of the republican party and wanted to elect a democrat because they like him. Now voting for a democrat just because you want your republican candidate to face that weaker opponent...that I don't agree with.

So, is your OP suggesting that Americans stay divided no matter what the cause is? Kind of strange, good luck to you and yours.

37. PA voter registration is out of whack with voting patterns
I spent most of yesterday registering new voters and getting voters to switch in Montgomery County. Montgomery County has more registered Republicans than Democrats, and a lot of independents. But Kerry won there by 12 points. The people I got to switch were people who seemed inclined to vote Democrat. One woman said she should have done it a long time ago, and another one said that she had initially registered as a Republican only because Republicans used to be the only game in town for local elections.

38. Obama
hasn't asked anyone to do something against a signed pledge they promised not to do when signing the pledge.

There is a difference, like comparing apples to oranges.

This isn't even remotely similar to what Rush encouraged.

If I were, God forbid, a Republican this time and a Democrat asked for my vote they would get it, all the way through the General Election. Nothing wrong with that. I know more than a few Republicans that'll be voting Democrat this time, legally!
