NJ Rutgers/Eagleton Poll: Kerry 43% Bush 37%
http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1083921186170900.xml

With New Jersey voters concerned about the war in Iraq and taking an unusually early interest in the presidential race, Sen. John Kerry leads President Bush by three percentage points, a new Star-Ledger Rutgers/Eagleton Poll shows.

Forty-three percent of voters surveyed said they would vote for the Democratic challenger, while 37 percent said they would re-elect the Republican incumbent. Two percent said they would vote for another candidate, and the remainder were undecided.

Though Election Day is still six months away and New Jersey has yet to hold its June 8 primary, three-quarters of voters say they have "a lot" of interest in the race. Only half of the state's voters were as interested at similar points in the last two presidential elections.

Voters are even more focused on presidential politics now than they were just one month before the closely contested 2000 election between Bush and then-Vice President Al Gore.

4. Bush fuzzy math?
Isn't it sad when you have to question your own ability to do math in this crazy upside down world?

6. while NJ is probably in the democratic column in November
a six-point lead is not yet a slam-dunk--but on the other hand they say undecideds usually break 2-1 for the challenger.

7. That's scary.
We should be dominating in NJ. Gore won it by about 15%. Only being up by 6% is bad news for us.

8. I'm not buying
that Kerry leads by only six points. Gore won it by like 15. I saw another poll where Kerry was leading by over ten...

16. Another poll had Kerry up by 12
And there was another one that actually had Bush up narrowly. But, Gore lead Bush very narrowly had this time in 2000 in NJ so the state should be safe.

10. lol
If we write off NJ, we may as well write off the entire election.

And Kerry is gonna take that state by atleast ten points.

14. That makes a lot more sense
Edited on Fri May-07-04 05:04 PM by fujiyama
The 11 percent undecided will mostly go with Kerry. Unless Bush wins by a landslide (and that isn't going to happen), there's little chance of Bush winning it. It's smart on Kerry's part not to spend too much time there.

15. That probably includes "leaners"
3% leaning Bush, 6% leaning Kerry... on top of the rest.
