What will keep Obama from throwing Democrats under the bus just like he did to Granny?
The more and more I hear him talking about reaching out to Republicans in order to get elected, the more worried I am that he will bail out on us just like he did to Gramma. Anytime you bail out on one of your own, it is not a good sign, folks. Heck, if you can't be loyal to family, then who can you be loyal to?

If by some miracle, Obama gets elected, you know dam well that the Repukes are going to hold him to his word, and that means everything we fight for will be compromised...like separation of church and state, less government deregulation of industries, and possibly even the environment. With the way things are right now, this is no time to be reaching out to the same people that have wrecked this country from top to bottom.

The only reaching out to Republicans that any Democrats should do is reach out across the isle and slap the shit out of them for what they've done to us.

30. Next what?
Obama is supposed to be 'different' and
that means he is not supposed to do everything
Hillary does.
He is not a different type of politician like
he claims. It is outright hypocrisy for him
to even say that any more.

6. YOU should be ashamed of yourself for repeating r/w talking points.

From DUer EffieBlack:

"Obama threw his grandmother under the bus" - nearly 700 Google hits

Obviously, this is the RW - and apparently DU - talking point for the day.

FYI, to all those who are tempted to use this pathetic claim, Obama spoke in depth about this in his book more than 10 years ago:

"{My grandfather} turned around and I saw that he was shaking. ‘It is a big deal. It’s a big deal to me. She’s been bothered by men before. You know why she’s so scared this time. I’ll tell you why. Before you came in, she told me the fella was black.’ He whispered the word. ‘That’s the real reason why she’s bothered. And I just don’t think that right.’

"The words were like a fist in my stomach, and I wobbled to regain my composure. In my steadiest voice, I told him that such an attitude bothered me, too, but reassured him that Toot’s fears would pass and that we should give her a ride in the meantime. Gramps slumped into a chair in the living room and said he was sorry he had told me. Before my eyes, he grew small and old and very sad. I put my hand on his shoulder and told him that it was all right, I understood.

"We remained like that for several minutes, in painful silence. Finally he insisted that he drive Toot after all, and struggled up from his seat to get dressed. After they left, I sat on the edge of my bed and thought about my grandparents. They had sacrificed again and again for me. They had poured all their lingering hopes into my success. Never had they given me reason to doubt their love; I doubted if they ever would. And yet I knew that men who might easily have been my brothers would still inspire their rawest fear."

He didn't - to use the recently ubiquitous term - "throw his grandmother under the bus." He spoke openly and honestly about his own personal experiences in a family who he loves very much, something he has been doing since before he ran for public office.

Of course, one of the reasons people are trying to mischaracterize and caricature this is that Obama's personal observation was so compelling and impactful - they'll do anything they can to try to smear, denigrate and belittle it and him.

Neither have they answered the question of what President Obama would owe these people for their vote. What is he prepared to give away to keep his center-right coalition together?

I just do not trust someone who reaches out so much that he loses his footing.

52. Not all Republicans...
Chuck Hagel and Ron Paul oppose the war. Some Senators disapprove of Bush's handling of it - Warner, Snow, Coleman, etc. They could be helpful in bringing the soldiers back home. Maybe socially we disagree but where we could be friendly, we should. It will be difficult for them to support McCain, I think, given his opinion on the war.

Hillary likes McCain on the war (and everything else?) better than she likes Obama, a Democrat, so who's throwing who under a bus?

A friendly hand should go out to Lincoln Chaffee and Susan Eisenhower. Lincoln's independent now and she is still repub supporting Obama.

I crossed over. In my defense, I have voted more democrat than republican in my life and left when the extreme wing of the democratic party took over. I felt Obama's invitation, I want him to deal with NAFTA and get us out of the War. McCain promises more War and will continue the Bush's failing free trade policies.

A while back I posted a link to a picture of a little boy. He looked to be around six years old. He was dressed in a Sunday suit, standing very reverent and still while being presented a folded American flag. His dad had been killed. He was trying to be brave but you could see how close he was to bursting into tears. This is what is most important this election!
