Scarborough just doesn't get it
He said he heard the whole speech and understood it and it was a great historical speech, but if heard those same comments for 20 years about blacks in his church he would of ran out letting people know loudly while he was leaving. If this is his response, he didn't listen, He doesn't acknowledge that blacks have had it as a whole much tougher than him. These are the same 30-35% (pat buchanon etc.) that will never change no matter what. The thing that bothers me most about Scarboerough is he 's convinced he knows how everyone should react because he would react that way..maybe he should try to understand why, or walk a mile in someone elses shoes first.

people in Washington and New York. This idiot doesn't even realize that he's one of the Washington "elites". He has no idea what people in middle America think.

First of all, I don't know why you watch that show.

A secondly, are you expecting to tune in and hear him make any sense?

He is an idiot. Why do you waste your time?

17. It's the Olbermann effect.
I've said this before, but it bears repeating.

General Electric. Top ten Pentagon contractor. Makes BILLIONS from us taxpayers. Some of it No Bid and Sole Source. A MASSIVE company, an entity that is more influential than many nations.

MSGOP is their "propaganda arm." It barely makes any money, but it doesn't need to, really--the corporation gets enough from the government coffers, and MSNBC is a "useful tool."

MSGOP tells people what to "think" about politics.

They stake "Keeeeeeeith" out there like a juicy goat, and the hungry liberals get a whiff of him and draw near to the campfire, in the hopes of getting sustenance from that juicy goat. Ooooh, he says all those LIBERAL THINGS, ergo, MSNBC "must" be a "liberal network" with the interests of LIBERALS at heart!!! Yeah, that's the ticket!

In actual fact, the minute those hungry liberals draw near, they get blasted with Morning Joe and Tweety and Fatboy Russert and a whole HOST of "Fucking Idiots" who repeat themes that have been xeroxed en masse by the RNC.

What's good for General Electric is Good For the Corporate War Machine. What's good for MSNBC is good for General Electric.

Forget that at your peril. They aren't on anyone's "side" but the side of PROFIT.

GE, We Bring Good Wars to Life.

26. I, for one, am glad that Keith is not waiting for the Perfect, Ideologically Pure TV Network
to offer him lots of money to spread the facts around.

MSNBC is, of course, an enterprise designed to make money...nothing more. So are most places at which people work.

Keith Olbermann knows this. If he can continue to speak the truth to people, even when it contradicts what might ensure the greatest profits in some area of his employer's ledger book, well, what the hell, he figures. More power to him!

I say "more power to him," too.

I don't have to swallow what the rest of his network wants me to think. I can enjoy the "juicy goat" without partaking of any of the rest of the feast at all, if I choose. That's because I'm not a sheep. I can make selections...including choosing when to turn my TV off.

I wager a lot of people out there are just as smart as I am. They're not as dumb as some smug people would like to think they are. They're not fooled into believing MSNBC is a "liberal" network. They enjoy the intelligent voices they find there and pooh-pooh the rest. And they choose to buy the products advertised only if they want to.

Besides, it's silly to misrepresent GE as a monolith. They're so diversified that if all wars ended tomorrow, they'd make plenty of money off their other enterprises. Amazing as that may seem.

In the meantime, I'll keep picking out the wheat (like Keith and Rachel Maddow) from MSNBC and throwing the chaff away.

28. He's just there to pull you in. When they don't need him anymore, they'll
give him the Donohue treatment, and he'll go back to doing sports.

You certainly don't have to "swallow" what his network wants you to think. But MOST do.

Count yourself fortunate that you are an exception to the rule, because you are exactly that.

Take the time to click on these links. One is a short transcript, the other a very brief video clip.

Jack Welch (the architect of the MSNBC/MSGOP propaganda effort that helped Bush into the White House, and helped to KEEP HIM THERE) on HARDBALL two years ago: http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh071306.shtml

Jack Welch on MORNING JOE this year telling everyone we won't have a recession (it'll just FEEL like one): http://video.aol.com/video-detail/jack-welch-on-msnbcs-morning-joe-talking-recession/1164982534

And here's more on our friends at GE--again, these are just highlights, do click on the link and read about their unsafe nuclear plants, their dumping of toxins into the environment, their irresponsible association with the coal industry, and so on:

"Ecomagination" is General Electric's (GE) latest venture to green its image. Tack that onto the company's slogan that it "brings good things to life" and one might think that GE is a company striving to create a better future. However, GE's past is mired in environmental hazards, war profiteering and media manipulation. GE is responsible for toxic Superfund sites, knowingly exposing people to radioactive material, and alleged manipulation of news coverage through its mass media entities. Despite its claims of going greener, the company is fighting Superfund clean-up laws that hold the company accountable for damage caused by years of careless Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) dumping. GE has also secured millions of dollars in defense and military contracts, earning itself a place among notorious war profiteering companies such as Lockheed Martin and Halliburton. GE has made some progress; it became an EPA Climate Leader partner. But the company has a long way to go to fully realize its claims to be a green friendly company.

....The nonprofit, nonpartisan group Free Press sponsors public campaigns to fight concentrated big media ownership. General Electric is the largest, most influential corporation in terms of revenue and scope of its media operations and ownership. Free Press asks citizens to take action against a complete media takeover by giants GE, Time Warner, Vivendi Universal, Viacom and Disney by opposing the FCC’s lax enforcement of media ownership rules.

...General Electric not only paid zero taxes from 2001 to 2003, but also received $9.5 million in tax breaks from the U.S. government. GE recorded almost $37 billion in profits during this two year time frame.

-- Citizens for Tax Justice, 09/01/2004
    Source URL: www.ctj.org/corpfed04an.pdf

General Electric CEO, Jack Welch, faced allegations of meddling with NBC’s coverage of the 2000 election results by insisting that the channel declare an early victory for George W. Bush. GE is the parent company of NBC, and Welch is a firm supporter of President Bush and made sizeable contributions to the Bush campaign. During an investigation of the events, Welch admitted his presence at the NBC studios for the purpose of celebrating on election night, but denied any intervention in the reporting process.

Additionally, GE Energy Rentals Inc. was awarded a contract by the Army Corps of Engineers to serve as the primary power provider and maintenance authority for U.S. military bases in Bagram and Kandahar, Afghanistan. The original contract was for the amount of $5.9 million, however only six months later, the initial contract was amended several times to increase compensation by $873,623, reaching a grand total of $6,801,493.

General Electric was implicated in CorpWatch’s War Profiteers Campaign, alongside companies such as Bechtel, Lockheed Martin, Halliburton, Northrop Grumman and Boeing. War profiteers continue to reap the benefits of conflict by producing weapons and/or lining up for lucrative government contracts for various services, using their connections to secure preference. The War Profiteers Campaign exists to educate citizens on corporate ties to military and defense money, and encourages people to contact CEOs with a message that companies must end their roles as beneficiaries from weapons production and proliferation. GE was awarded $2.2 billion worth of military contracts in 2005. The company contributed $220,950 to defense-related political campaigns during the 2004 election cycle, with 50 percent going to Democrats and 50 percent to Republicans. GE’s overall campaign contributions in 2004 totaled $1.9 million.

7. Buchanan/Scarborough have one purpose...make sure Obama doesn't get nominated.
They put down Obama at every opportunity and the only reason I can think of, why Republicans would care who Democrats nominate, is that they prefer Clinton to run against.

Scarborough must be getting fried in emails today. He looked into the camera (made a big point about this) and piously stated how great he thought the speech was, then turned away to resume bashing Obama.

19. No. He likes to hear himself talk.
Has anyone noticed MSNBC virtually has the SAME people on EVERY DAY with few exceptions (today was an exception with Mike Huckabee & Charlie Crist), but it's always the MSNBC gang, Matthews, Buchanan, Carlson, etc...but never Keith. I wonder why?

Can't they get any new guests to appear on the show? Why isn't Obama and Clinton appearing, or their campaign members?

They spew so much vitriol, I have decided to watch Fox Noise for ONE day only, just for the hell of it to see if it is any better. I'm sure I will leave Fox with a terrible taste in my mouth, but I want to compare all three cable news networks and see who actually gives more fair and accurate reporting. Dr. Gupta on CNN really irritates me, but I will watch a full day of CNN too, without switching the channel. After my test is over, I may never turn on cable news again!

15. His comments this morning are markedly different that those he
made yesterday after Obama's speech. After the speech, he was keeping Pat honest. Today we're back to the same old, same old. Maybe what we saw yesterday was Late Morning Joe. A Joe who, as head of the panel, had a greater responsibility to giving an honest assessment of the speech. Today we're back to seeing the real Joe. Ugly Morning Joe.

Or maybe Joe just slept on the speech and woke up realizing he's not ready to move forward. Dividing, distorting, and distracting are his keys to financial success.

Either way, Mourning Joe sucks.

20. It's way more than 30--35%
MOST white people acknowledge that slavery and Jim Crow and discrimination and the KKK and segregation were horrible things. BUT--they see it as the past. They see the bloodiest war in our history fought to rid the country of slavery. They see laws that have been passed to make segregation and discrimination illegal. They see Affirmative Action, which attempts to level the playing field. They understand that they themselves have never owned slaves, or personally benefitted from slavery, or discriminated.

They wonder why they should be held responsible for someone else's wrongs.

For a lot of people, this has been their first encounter with such rhetoric. It is jarring. It is a huge turn-off. Some of it--the conspiracy theory--is just crazy. People feel that the fact that Obama was actually mentored by Rev. Wright should raise serious questions about his own views.

Just sayin'.
