I find WASPs to be more progressive, or at least more publicly genteel, than non-WASP whites when it comes to racial issues. I don't know why that is, possibly a sense of "My people had nothing to do with slavery, we were discriminated against too, why should I feel guilty?" I work in a predominantly African American firm, and the most Leftist person in the office is a redheaded, green-eyed Quaker from Virginia.

Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell have sowed the seeds of hate into the fabric of this country for decades, without leaving a liberal/progressive stone unturned.

What we have seen of Jeremiah Wright amounts to about a minute of youtube videos. But when you get past the heightened rhetoric that one can either agree or disagree with, you find a person that has spent many years instituting programs to give his fellow community members that have been beaten down a way to look forward to a brighter future.

And McClurkin, like was mentioned above, is a self-loathing homophobe. His suffering is that which hopefully none of us will ever have to endure.
