I just finished watching Obama's incredible speech.
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 05:51 PM by Elrond Hubbard
I'm not often moved by words, but he had me in tears. He didn't just hit a home run, he hit a grand slam out of the park and into the next county.
It was beautifully written and stated, reaching out to white voters as well as black, and advocating for healing and togetherness.
I was nervous about what he would say, but I needn't have worried...he did an AMAZING job today.
Democrat supporters? Check in with a big GOBAMA (or GO DEMS!! if you will)

71. "Hussein Obama is on a downward spiral "
Let me say this. I have watched your posts and many have had a veiled racism to them. And I have not commented.

Your "Hussein" verbage reminds me of crap that was spewed against the Jews during the rise of the Third Reich.

I really cannot for the life of me see why anyone could be prejudiced. Why anyone could appeal to fear and to racism and to nativism and to moron-ism....by calling Obama by Hussein as his first name, when everyone knows his first name is Barack.

I guess you get turned on by calling someone Hussein. Just like there were those who had terms to call Jews....

Enjoy your hatred.

21. GOBAMA!
I felt the same way when watching his speech. I was pretty nervous at first, because I knew that everybody was going to be watching and just waiting for him to say something he'd regret, but just few minutes into the speech, I realized that he is indeed just the person that we need in the white house at this moment in time.

I remember just a few short years ago lamenting about not having a Democrat that could stand above the rest and inspire young and old to care about our country again and then Obama comes along and he sure has given me hope in the Democratic party once again.

In this one speech, he managed to say everything that I hoped for years that a politician would say when it comes to the racial divide in this country.

which shows class.

he was clearly going to hit this one out of the park, and if he were any less a statesman and more of a pol, he would have taken the podium with force and fire in a manipulative way. he didn't because that's not who he is. these issues are in "his genetic makeup" as he said.

47. Really? "tears"? I found it a lawyerly review & delivered as though a closing summation...
seeking to not ruffle any feathers anywhere, especially they still in the jury. I still have an issue or two with certain of his precepts; or the ways in which they weren't either, a) fleshed out, or, b) extended to other areas where they may be equally applied. I found it too black & white. Which seems as if the only 'racial issue' in America when we all know that many are effected.

Ultimately I felt this a speech BO should have made months ago; and not just in response to a maelstrom of ill-formed interest in his falling poll numbers as a result. But I suppose he needed to start somewhere. And this was as good as any point upon which to do so.

Though he did manage to get, "We can pounce some gaff by a Hillary support as evidence that she's playing the race card." and tying that into white males flocking to McCain regardless of his politics, or presumably as some result thereby. So yeah...

What's done is done. Vote for BO, or nothing will change.

Go Dems!

53. Wow...
I don't think in my lifetime I've felt like I would be honored for a candidate to serve as President if elected. I would feel honored by Senator Obama becoming President Obama.

For a long time, I mourned that VP Al Gore was not running again. I am now able to let that regret go because I believe a man of Gore's caliber IS running, and we CAN vote for and elect him.

To go from Bush* to Obama would be like moving from the deepest shit hole of despair to a place of sunshine, and breeze, and many hopes. He notes there will never be perfection, but to try, to start, is all.
