BUSTED! The Kessler-Kristol lie: what does it tell us about Barack's enemies?
It tells us what I've suspected all along: that they're neocons. To varying degrees, they've attached themselves to Hillary Clinton's campaign, and they are willing to destroy the Democratic Party, and to burn the last bridges between blacks and whites in the process of getting what they want.

I've watched the neocons. They bring a peculiar, gleeful viciousness to bear on what they do -- an utter indifference to other people's peace. They are wont to view destruction as a positive turn of events, and so to them, the growing polarization between black and white is nothing to weep over but rather a relief, something providing exploitable emotions and useful distractions.

And now, they have given us the rare gift of fucking up really badly. Never, never, never lie about something that can be fact-checked -- especially when your target was thousands of miles away, and has the airport schedules and videotape to prove it.

They'll probably try to brazen it out for a while. We'll have to demand a retraction of Kristol's column from the New York Times.

But it would be a mistake for us to drop this. We should continue to pull on the thread and see where it leads. Things like this don't just happen. It's coordinated activity. We need to know who the enemy is.

1. How about a clue?
What is this lie they got busted for?

A link possibly? Or even some kind of a specific reference?

What lie?

7. Kristol wrote that Obama had, gasp, listened to that sermon
when he said he hadn't.

Kristol's source was Newsmax and Kristol didn't bother to check it out or, he intentionally lied.

31. Kristol is the republican poster boy for failing upward.
No matter how wrong he is proven to be, time and time again, he is afforded cushy jobs at the New York Times, no less! Why hasn't his hack been driven out of town? How is it possible that he is taken seriously in any way by anyone?

8. sorry 'bout that...
(Read Babylonsister's post downthread for a better summary.)

Basically, a newsmax journalist named Ron Kessler wrote a story claiming that Obama was in church one day last summer, and was seen to nod in agreement at one of Rev Wright's sermons.

Bill Kristol just repeated that claim in his column in the New York Times.

Thing is, Barack was in Florida at that time, and can prove it with video.

26. The bogus Newsmax article about Obama being at his church...
...listening to what is labeled as an inflamatory, anti-white, anti-US sermon by Wright and the Newsmax author says that Obama was nodding his head in agreement.

The real truth and the facts are...The Newsmax article is a total lie because Obama was in Miami, Fl, at the time this sermon was given and could NOT have been in church and heard it, let alone nodding in agreement to the contents thereof.

So the lies of Newsmax were picked up by Kristol ... and when Newsmax was debunked...so was Kristol.

At least that is how I understand it.

3. And for anyone who doesn't have a clue about what the OP is talking
about...

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/17/kristol-commits-major-error-in-nyt-column/

Kristol commits major error in NYT column.»

Marc Ambinder reports Bill Kristol’s NYT column today contains “a major, prejudicial error.” Kristol asserts that Obama “was in fact in the pews” when pastor Jeremiah Wright blamed the “arrogance” of the “United States of White America” for much of the world’s suffering. Kristol’s “source” for the claim is a story reported by the right-wing publication Newsmax. Ambinder writes:

The error is in trusting the source without checking.

The truth is that Obama did not attend church on July 22.

He was on his way to campaign in Miami.

(Here is some video evidence.) This was before he signed an agreement forbidding himself from campaigning in Florida.

Sadly, this isn’t Kristol’s first error. He misattributed a quote in his first column for the paper.

doesn't take long to complete the loop. It's got HRC fingerprints all over it. The NYT is her paper. Glad to see they're sourcing the goddamn septic tanks of the right wing blogosphere. :sarcasm:

6. "British intelligence says"...
Kristol's tactics are just like Bush's. Remember the SOU when Bush said that British intelligence told them about Saddam trying to buy yellow cake from Africa? Bush knew that was false from our own intelligence, so he referenced someone else saying it.
Now Kristol quotes a "journalist who has written about Wright" saying that Obama was in the pew. Kristol never says he believes it, so he has very technically covered his ass.
He's nothing but right wing trash spewing filth.

that people in the world start talking to one another. They don't want wars to stop or trade and economies to be fair. They make too much money of sowing discord. They've picked their candidates. McCain, who will jones for war every day of his life over a peaceful solution to problems, and Hillary, who will look away or engage in corruption on her own.

27. I agree--they WILL destroy the Democratic Party just as they did
with the Republican Party(I know that no one probably cares about the R's, but had the moderate R's been more diligent, perhaps they wouldn't have had the hijacking that they experienced--this goes back at least to Reagan.).

Absolutely shitty times are ahead for the Dem Party as the struggle for corporate controlled politics within the ranks seeks to wrest control from all grassroots inputs. It seems we are a hairs breadth away from the next fascist political nation. Free thinkers beware.........

17. It's all about confusion and chaos..
the more you listen to the talking heads, the less you are thinking for yourself. We need the strongest candidate in November. A candidate that can stand on their own against the media... not the most protected candidate, protected and herded into the election booth by talking heads.

... and end it.

That is the difference.

So no, I do not want Hillary, and I especially do not want her after this campaign, and after these tactics, and after dirty tricks like Kessler-Kristol. No thanks.

24. If you were capable of ending it, fine. You're not!
you're talking pettiness and so concerned about things you can't to anything about; you can't see the Trees for the Forest. Rome is burning and you're worried about nonsense. The crash to our economy is coming. Get your money out of the banks and cash in your investments before they shutter the doors.
