According to Obama's church website, they have a live stream starting at 7:30 AM and repeats later so I would assume the services start at 7:30 CST. Seems very reasonable, Obama could have attended early morning services and then flew to Miami afterward on private jet to be at his speech by 3PM EST.

3. It sounds deranged, but don't bet on it being false. (Or true)
One nice thing about stuff like this is it gets verified independent of our Nancy Drew musings.

Obama either attended services that day with his secret service retinue or he didn't... it's not like there's no record of these things.

I would prefer people not post from fucking NEWSMAX at all, so I'm hostile to this story for its source, and for being a lame story either way.

5. As I pointed out in the other thread; there's no bloody time! (He was in Iowa too)
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 02:59 AM by Drachasor
The earliest service time begins at 7:30 am, and according to their website it is 2:30 hours. That brings us to 10:00am

http://www.convertunits.com/distance/from/Chicago/to/Miami,FL
The distance from Chicago to Miami is 1,187 miles. That's about a 2 hour flight.

So that brings us up to 12:00 am.

So you are saying that he managed to get through traffic in time to do this? (To say nothing of security measures and making NO plans for delays?)

Also, the previous night he was in Des Moines, Iowa and gave a speech starting at 7:00pm:

And note, this website records him going from Iowa to Florida directly.

6. His campaign is denying he was there.

« The Rev. Jeremiah Wright was an early concern, Obama aide admits | Main

Website says Obama attended anti-white Wright sermon; campaign says no
In a posting this evening, Newsmax.com reports that its correspondent witnessed Sen. Barack Obama attending one of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's anti-white sermons on July 22 and nodding his head in agreement with the black congregation.

The report on the conservative website directly contradicts the Democratic presidential candidate's recent statements that while he denounced the pastor's controversial anti-American and anti-white rhetoric, he had never heard such declarations himself in church or in private.

Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, immediately denied the Newsmax report, saying Obama was in Miami that day. He referred to an item hastily posted on the Obama Fact Check website saying simply: "Fact: Obama did not attend services on July 22."

The lengthy Newsmax report by Ronald Kessler said its correspondent, Jim Davis, attended services on July 22, 2007, at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's South Side and saw Obama in attendance. Kessler's story states:

13. I am sick of it already
I would rather hear the news, but if it's a scandal they won't let it go. The media can either make ya or break ya. Some media we have. Why can't they report on what's happening in Iraq? No...it's the same story over and over and over. Geez.

14. It's not about the preacher.
It's about Obama's reaction in the last few days. He did not know Rev. Wright made these and other similar statements? His answers speak to his credibility and integrity.

17. Probably sloppy reporting on the dates
But whatever.Fussing over this - while important from a decent journalism poit of view - only serves to keep the story alive.

Because if he missed that sermon - what about all the others he attended/ etc. the GOP is going to love this in the fall should we make the mistake of nominating him.

(Mind you - he should lose the nomination not because of this which makes him unelectable in the fall - but because he is the weaker candidate.)

20. Why do Clinton supporters, so desperately, want newsmax stories to be true?
The weakest campaign strategy is one which relies on your opponents making mistakes. Sen. Clinton cannot win the general election unless she can stand on her own acts and deeds. Any candidate who is crossing their fingers waiting for their competition to mess up, never gets the big prize. Obama will win the general election because he is appealing to voters because of what he stands for. His success is not based on Sen. Clinton's faults. And I have never cited Clinton stories from newsmax because I know that news source is ABSURD!
