Hillary answers reporters' questions for 92 minutes re her tax returns!!
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 05:44 PM by Walter Sobchak
Yeah, right.

Seriously, since all you Hillary supporters claim to believe so much in "vetting," when's she going to produce her last 7 years of tax returns?

I've come to the conclusion that we need a Democrat who's been vetted to run in the general election.

And only 1 candidate has been fully vetted: Barack Obama.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-0316edit1mar16,0,2616801.story

The most remarkable facet of Obama's 92-minute discussion was that, at the outset, he pledged to answer every question the three dozen Tribune journalists crammed into the room would put to him. And he did.

---

We fully expect the Clinton campaign, given its current desperation, to do whatever it must in order to keep the Rezko tin can tied to Obama's bumper.

When we endorsed Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination Jan. 27, we said we had formed our opinions of him during 12 years of scrutiny. We concluded that the professional judgment and personal decency with which he has managed himself and his ambition distinguish him.

Nothing Obama said in our editorial board room Friday diminishes that verdict.

11. It's amazing how much coverage this has gotten
compared to issues that really matter.

Who does Clinton owe favors to? How will we know if she refuses to produce her tax returns?

How many Marc Riches will get pardoned this time around??

23. Do you take your talking points straight from Drudge?
So, it matters not that Obama is a straight racist hypocrite, let's use all the tired disproven Bushco lies against her. This is sickening! If a person is a politician, they are not totally clean, it's an ugly ugly business. I look for a candidate who has ideas that they will fight for and find Obama totally lacking. Yeah he made a great anti-war speech, then spent all of the time in the Senate voting pro-war, just like Hillary. I'm not thrilled with her either, don't like the triangulation, but I do believe she's a Democrat and won't bring in Repuglicans just because they are women as Barack wants to bring in Colin Powell, the seller of this war, just because he's black.

who have already been sent into a war on false pretenses by politicians who are corrupt or lack judgment?

4. It is a non-issue. Her returns are public record and have been for years
she is a Senator. The issue is another one of Obama's "change" issues. Bringing up lies designed to question the verasity of Clinton when there is nothing there.

Clinton's tax returns are public record.

8. She releases financial statements as senator, not tax returns.
I'm dying to know how many tax dollars they are avoiding by going through the little building in the Cayman Islands (Burkle affair). Not illegal, but the rich get richer and the little guys get to pay their share of the tax burden.

Just like you're not supposed to point out that her planned April 15th production has nothing whatsoever to do with tax day, since most of these returns were prepared years ago.

10. Seriously. How far do Clintons' supporters have to dig.
They've been screaming about this Rezco thing for months, and reporters have been trying to dig up some quid-pro-quo for years. They found nothing.

They scour Obama's pastor's 30 years of preaching to find 30 seconds worth of confrontational material, and claim that it disqualifies Obama as President. By this logic, I, as a Catholic, must support child molesters. It's just ridiculous.

What are they going to do next? Dig up statements he made in kindergarten? Oh wait, they already did that.

All this time they say they're pulling this shit in the name of "vetting." Meanwhile, their own candidate has refused to produce her past SEVEN YEARS of tax returns. Talk about hypocrisy.

16. SEVEN YEARS? Hell, the IRS doesn't even ask for THAT!
What in the world do you think you're going to find in their tax returns? Where the $5 million came from that she loaned her campaign? Noooo. I'm positive they file a joint return. Hillary has sold several books that netted her more than $5 million, and once the money is mingled with the "family income" it can't be isolated again. ALL the money earned is JOINTLY OWNED. Hmmm, you think some of Bills money might have been earned from foreign associations. I'm sure it was! Soooo? I own Mutual Funds, and one of the funds invests in FOREIGN ENTITIES. You know why I did that? Because Shrub was making such a mess out of our Dollar and our economy I believed that I'd do better in the international market and the EURO! I know I'm not running for Prez. If I was qualified, I still wouldn't run. Way too much hassel and BS. BUT if I can earn income on foreign investments, so can Bill & Hill.

I think you've all fallen for another media trick. They demand every piece of info they can think of, just trying to find something they can tick off the candidate with.

I really don't care to see anybody's tax return. Do you honestly think, under a Shrub administration for 7+ years, the IRS hasn't combed through every page of those returns looking for ANYTHING they could possibly hang on the Clintons? Comeon!

17. The IRS doesn't care how Hillary and Bill made their money--
they just want a cut. It's the American people who might want to know how the Clintons earn their money--and it's our right to know, frankly. I think this is far more important than Obama's nutty retiring pastor, or Gennifer Flowers--it tells us who they might be beholden to, who they do business with, what sort of financial activities they engage in.

25. The IRS might not, but the Shrub Pubs do! Comeon. Do you really think
Shrub has been in office for 7 years, has had his Rover buddies investigate Dem Governors, fired uncooperative AG's, wiretapped all of us, and he wouldn't have had his lacky at the IRS check out every line item of the Clinton tax return? Get real! My guess is that they've already checked out every Dem candidate who ran for Prez so they'd find what they could no matter who the candidate was.

18. Are you saying the Clintons didn't file returns the past seven years?
Now, that is huge news!

If there was nothing more controversial in those tax returns than emerging markets mutual funds, I have a feeling they would have released them by now.

Hillary can make this story go away really easily. She should release them immediately, and answer reporters' questions. If there's nothing there, there's nothing there. But then why hasn't she done this already?

30. Nope. I haven't bothered looking at them.
I have enough trouble getting myself to look at my own tax returns.

But I know that Obama's tax returns through 2006 have been produced.

Here's his 2006 return:

33. "We concluded that the professional judgment and personal decency . . .

Is it really too much to ask to have a candidate with professional judgment and personal decency? Shouldn't we want a president with these qualities, especially after this eight year debacle in the White House?
