I got no dog in this fight, but it seems that Rev Wright Spoke the truth,
At least in all the video clips I've seen. And I agree with what he has said.
and trying to hang Obama for it seems low down. It's akin to the GOPosse attempting to pin the Vince Foster suicide on the Clintons. It's personal and it teeters real close to the *when did you stop beating your wife* line.

13. It's been done to every ethnicity..
The Irish suffered the Potato famine, watching their families starve to death on rotten food. Flee to America and get beaten-up daily by street gangs and unacceptable for employment for anything but menial jobs, if that. The Italians went through the same wringer. They survived and flourished. They didn't promote hate.

Just pointing out that the statement, as presented, was factually incorrect. You can continue your public jerk off with your archenemies on the other side if you want.

But the IRA and the English, that's what real hate looks like. And it's not even as bad as it gets.

Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 09:19 AM by rosebud57
when they emigrated are being promoted as reason why white females deserve a white female presidency is really twisted.

Tell it to Emmet Till and the white woman he whistled at. Tell it to the 4 little girls who died in a church basement.

My white Italian ancestors had a nice middle-class blue collar life.

52. Uh huh, right.
not buying it.

Irish and Italian immigrants were subject to discrimination on the basis of anti-Catholic prejudice more than anything else. And the reason that a lot of those people couldn't get anything better than menial jobs is because most of them had no skills to do anything else. I say this as someone whose great-great-grandfather came to America from Ireland, during the potato famine...and he was a schoolteacher, not a menial labourer (so much for 'unacceptable for employment').

You can't really compare four hundred years of slavery and Jim Crow to the Irish or Italian experience in America; you just CAN'T. It's ridiculous to even TRY to do that.

Shouldn't Obama have denounced them, their endorsement, and their money? Saying HRC or her supporters back Republicans "always" when their is virtually no difference in their voting records, is not a very effective argument.

11. That may be...
But what concerns me is what the "GOPosse" will do with it.

Yes, it's personal, and it's about insinuations and implications and impressions -- it doesn't have to be concrete, doesn't have to make sense, doesn't have to be fair, right, sensible, logical, or even political to poison enough perceptions to create a problem.

I'm not concerned with what Wright said. I'm concerned with how the Obama camp will counter it, on the visceral, emotional, "gut" level that too many voters decide with.

Truth and progress are not welcome here.

Change is too risky. Openly discussing racism and sexism is only going to cost us votes and must be avoided at all costs...unless of course a half-truth about the *other* candidate comes along.
