I will vote for the nominee IF:
1) They have the most pledged delegates; or

2) They get the most popular votes.

By either metric, their nomination would be considered legitimate.

Anyone feel otherwise?

4. If Clinton gets the most popular votes and gets the
nomination, I'll be heartbroken but will vote for her.

If she gets the most pledged delegates, I'll vote for her as well.

If you have someone who neither got the most votes nor the most delegates being selected by unelected DNC members, I'd have to think long and hard about it.

3. I agree
either of those two metrics would be needed UNLESS something happens that would make the nominee completely, obviously and utterly unelectable. (Crime, Scandal --whatever)

7. And there you have the reason the Clinton camp is wildly trying to make something stick
Thats no way to win a Democratic nomination.

Should Hillary win by using that tactic I will refuse to vote for her in the GE.

5. The problem with the popular votes is that you necessarily disenfrachise the
states that caucus that have a different level of turnout.

So if it turns out that one candidate wins the delegate count, wins the most primaries, wins virtually all of the caucuses but narrowly loses the popular count you would . . . .?

10. You can count caucus participants in most instances.
It's not a perfect metric. But it would be enough to get me to support the nominee.

Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 01:21 PM by Upton
why have primaries and elect delegates if we're not going to use them?
