Lackwanna County (PA) votes to scrap Diebold machines...
Was scanning around on some of the PA election news sites and happened to see this ditty on the main page of this site: http://www.votepa.us/

March 4, 2008
BREAKING NEWS -- 3:17 PM

Lackwanna County Commissioners have voted to scrap the plan of purchasing Diebold/Premier paperless touchscreens and are instead going with ES&S M100 optical scanners and AutoMARK ballot markers for accessibility!

More to Follow.

I haven't been keeping track of who (if anyone) is using Diebold machines in PA but I know that Philly hasn't been - it uses Danaher 1242 machines, which are not really "touch screen" (IMHO) but are more like "touch pad" with raised buttons. They produce a printout, although I saw some blips questioning verification of a recount on a machine since there is no one-to-one record for each vote apparently. Funny but I miss those old clunky lever machines (used for 60 years...lol).

Any PA DUers out there in counties/municipalities with Diebold machines?

4. 16 Counties and 894,752 voters use paperless Diebold machines in Pennsylvania...

...and that's using the November 2007 registration statistics (there will be LOTS more new voters registered this year I am sure!)

Thank you for posting this.

Here are some links to followup information on the story (we are posting our VotePA's site soon.)

Fayette County also recently voted NOT to purchase more paperless machines, but instead to buy scanners:
