10. It's only racebaiting when a Hillary supporter asks such a thing I guess.
But it's A-OK when we ask whether Hillary is depending on the white supremacy vote.

3. Hey genius, what Dem has won the presidency without black voters in recent history?
Unfortunately, your candidate screwed the pooch with that demographic and is paying the price for it now.

25. Maybe. I'm wondering how well that will work out in the GE though.
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 05:00 PM by aquarius dawning
Black folks are disproportionately represented in the democratic party but in the bigger picture, they are disproportionately not represented which mneans he's going to have to depend on white voters to pull off a GE win, white voters in traditionally red states that will happily vote for John McCain. It seems like a strategy that works out very well for him in a democratic party primary but which leads to certain failure in the GE.

7. I wonder sometimes
whether Obama would be winning more handily if he didn't have such overwhelming support of black voters.

It seems as if that scares white voters (like the OP) for some reason? and has ended up polarizing this election a bit?

It's called race-baiting.

And the insinuation is that somehow black votes are less important than white votes. It's just coded language. You get good at hearing it growing up in this country as a minority.

32. Why is it OK for some Obama supporters to demonize mature white women or those without college
degrees? Why is that OK, but this is not? Don't tell me you haven't seen that or ask for some asinine link. It's everywhere, and requires very little effort to find.

That was more about Clinton's fear tactics, which incidentally, work best on older and less educated people. Nothing against those groups though, just saying.

31. No, we're saying that black voters are disproportionately represented in the Democratic party
and that when that advantage evaporates in the General elction, Obama will lose all those red states that he did so well in and we will be complaining about President John McCain for the next 4-8 years.

Every state that she has won will be states that any Dem will carry in the General.

Also care to explain how Obama won Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Washington, etc etc...

23. Damn straight: it's only okay when white politicians count on black voters
When black politicians count on black voters, it's really unseemly. It's "not fair." They aren't real voters, after all: they're black voters.

And it's totally different than when a woman politicians counts on women voters to put her over the edge. That's okay. Because .... um ... because .... they're not black?

42. Let's see.
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 05:52 PM by ContinentalOp
African American turnout in '04 was 60%. There are around 40 million African Americans, about 30% of whom are under 18. So that makes about 28 million eligible black voters and around 17 million of them voted in the 04 elections. If Obama can get say 70% of African American voters to turn out in the GE that would be an increase of almost 3 million Democratic voters. Which is coincidentally the split between Kerry & Bush's popular votes in 2004. I have no idea what this would mean for the electoral college but it's interesting to ponder.
