MONSTER!!!
Hillary Clinton has been branded a "monster" by one of Barack Obama's top advisers, as the gloves come off in the race to win the Democrat nomination.

In an unguarded moment during an interview with The Scotsman, Samantha Power, his key foreign policy aide, let slip the camp's true feelings about the former First Lady.

<snip>

"We fucked up in Ohio," she admitted. "In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it, because she knows Ohio's the only place they can win.

"She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything," Ms Power said, hastily trying to withdraw her remark.

28. You are right, you allow it yourself.
I think Obama and his campaign looked at what happened in Ohio. The kitchen sink tactic that Hillary used worked. She lied about her position on NAFTA and played a role in the Canada/NAFTA mess.

Hillary has controlled the frame for the past two weeks, forcing Obama to continually be on the counter-attack. It is long past time that he throws some first punches.

I think we are to the point that a candidate cannot win without negative campaigning. He has to be one the offense to take the win. We want a fighter, right?

She went negative and he allowed her to frame it and keep him on the defense. He needs to be on the offense if he wants to win. He can do it without going dirty, but he needs to own the frame.

38. The comment was made by a representative of a presidential campaign.
It doesn't matter what any of us call her, it is inappropriate, however for a campaign official to call an opponent a monster. I find it wonderfully ironic that the comment came from the campaign that purports to represent 'change' and a 'new tone' in politics.

32. You're not a top aide in a presidential campaign.
People called monsters tend to be serial murderers, rapists, and war criminals. It is entirely inappropriate to call a United States Senator who has committed no crimes or engaged in behaviors comparable to those of murderers and rapists. It is more inappropriate for someone who represents a presidential campaign to do the name calling.

and I think Monster is a disgusting term to call such an upstanding and dignified woman who has done so much to help this nation. HOWEVER, monster is not sexist. I don't know where you're getting that? I mean, yes some things that have been said on this board are sexist, but monster is not one of those terms. Actually when I think of a big scary monster, I usually think of a male character rather than a female as I have a harder time thinking of women who commit rape, mass murder, etc.

Is that REALLY the best you can do?

Keep singing that mantra and she is sure to lose.

Was it 'sexism' when her husband became her voice in South Carolina?

I never thought about BILLARY until he spoke out in South Carolina. Up until that point, she was HILLARY CLINTON.

Throw that sh*t out all you want. It only reinforces the sexist point of view that 'woe is me........... wa...wa...wa........it's sooooooooo unfair'

I have no problem with people dealing with sexism.

I'm just questioning whether or not you are truly dealing with it.

Notice how I asked and you failed to answer: 'Was it 'sexism' when her husband became her voice in South Carolina?'

You write: ' guarantee you that, when women are turning out to vote for her in staggering numbers."

I call that sexism. The notion that someone votes exclusively on the basis of someone's sex is the definition SEXISM.

You've reduced Clinton down to a single note candidate when she is rightfully much more than that.

Too bad indeed.

14. CLINTON CAMPAIGN LIVES ON SMEARS, LIES AND FEAR
She is ........ sooooooooo ............ turning me off that I am hard pressed to make peace and vote for her if she wins the nomination. Obviously, that's a pretty outrageous thing for any Democrat to say, but I am truly disgusted by her offensive, divisive, aggressive attacks on a man who has done nothing but pander to America's best hopes.

I supported Clinton three months ago, but ever since Billary met Hillary in South Carolina, I have come to believe in Obama. He is not perfect. He is sure to disappoint. But I prefer to believe in the politics of hope than the politics of fear. That was Hillary's choice. Too bad she lacked the leadership to know that she does not need to follow Bush's campaign tactics.

This is no surprise coming from team-fraud Obama.

61. I can just picture the conflagration had one of Hillary's staff called Obama a "monster"
There would be about 100 heat-emitting posts, all spewing outrage and hate.

When an Obama staffer calls Hillary a monster, it's Hillary's fault. The contortions are getting to be painful to watch.

89. UPDATE: Statement from Power and Obama Campaign
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 12:44 AM by jefferson_dem
UPDATE: Statement from Samantha Power: These comments do not reflect my feelings about Sen. Clinton, whose leadership and public service I have long admired. I should not have made these comments and I deeply regret them. It is wrong for anyone to pursue this campaign in such negative and personal terms. I apologize to Sen. Clinton and to Sen. Obama, who has made very clear that these kinds of expressions should have no place in American politics.

Statement from Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton: Sen. Obama decries such characterizations, which have no place in this campaign.

102. Power is overtly obsessed with Hillary. She thinks Hil is always looking over her shoulder.

In a Democracy Now interview, from out of nowhere: intrusive thoughts!

AMY GOODMAN: You’ve been talked about as a possible secretary of state if Barack Obama were to become president.

SAMANTHA POWER: By people who know absolutely nothing about our campaign, but, I mean, I don’t know if that’s—how to even take that, but there’s no chance of that. But—

AMY GOODMAN: Of Barack Obama becoming president or you becoming secretary of state?

SAMANTHA POWER: Right, no. Hillary’s got her sound bite for the interview: “Adviser says no chance of Obama becoming president.” No, I hope—we are all guarding against what Obama calls our Iowa heads. You know, we can’t get big heads. We can’t get Iowa heads.

I know it's hard to keep your cool and bite your tongue sometimes, but you have to in situations like this. This is the sign of a young, inexperienced campaign. I know she is getting read the riot act by the Obama team.

Edit: And you know who is laughing his ass all the way to White House while the Dems throw insults like "Ken Starr" and "Monster" at each other.

Let's not cry foul when your player kicked the ball out of bounds to begin with. I'm sure Clinton and her supporters realize that an apology after the fact makes it all better, right?
