If Im forced to chose, I'll take Clinton-Obama over Obama-Clinton
And no... I havent hit my head. :P

As much as it pains many of us on this board, its looking more and more like both Dems are going to end up on the ticket.

And lets face it... Obama-Clinton makes absolutely no sense for a myriad of reasons. Not the least of which is that Clinton would never ever accept that spot. Clinton as Obamas VP pretty much wipes out his message, whereas he brings her all the things her message lacks. As much as I hate to say it... its got to be Clinton on top.

But there is a silver lining buried in the potential for WH occupation. The President gets at most 8 years... the VP at most 16. So who do I want in the WH longer? Obama. And if Clinton is half as good as she says she is... there should be no reason why it couldnt happen.

Gobama.

1. Obama can't be expected to take the VP slot when he's winning in terms of pledged delegates
a lead which he will take into the convention.

Plus, being Hillary's VP with Bill in the picture has got to be a singularly depressing thought for him.

5. But how can Obama-Clinton work?
Assuming we're forced to have both on one ticket..

10. Obama gets to be President...that's how it works
He does what he does best, which is mobilize people in favor of change, and she does what she does best, which is shoulder the burden of the nitty-gritty of policy.

Both would be compelling symbols globally; each could have a high profile around the world.

Really, the big issue for me is Bill. Just keep him the fuck out of the way and it could work.

19. Bill is a problem no matter what.
I couldnt agree more. And believe me... Clinton and Obama on the same ticket is not something I would be happy about. At all. But at this point, all Clinton is doing by tearing Obama down is helping McCain. Hell, at this rate - all McCain will have to do to attack Obama is play clips of Hillary.

And now, McCain gets a 5 month head start on the GE. Its really going to screw us if this drags out until August.

22. I think we need to come to terms with HRC
but not with Obama playing second fiddle.

To your main point, the Party has got to be working on this. It's obvious that the air will go out of our balloon if we turn Pennsylvania into some Twilight of the Gods moment in this race. These are not winner-take-all primaries. No knockout blows will be landed in terms of delegates won. The race is what it is; time to work out a deal.

2. Meh. I'm not ready to concede defeat.
I agree that Clinton as the VP, while not necessarily doing a great deal of harm to the ticket, is set back by the fact that there are other names that could do more good.

I still think that, in the end, Obama will win this, and the VP will be of his choosing. Ford didn't add Reagan to the ticket in 1976, Carter didn't add Kennedy in 1980, Mondale didn't add Hart in 1984, and so on. A prolonged, close race, even one that goes to the convention, does not necessitate a so-called unity ticket.

3. Agreed (see? It's possible!)
I think there's a possibility this will happen in a "backroom deal" depending on the next few weeks. And, that's the way I think it will go, because of what you stated and because of the senatorial seniority thing. This is pure speculation on my part, but, depending on the next six weeks or so, I think it'll be what you just said: HRC will get top spot, Obama VP. 16 years of Dem rule, with Obama promised 100% support in his run as President, and HRC given a USSC appointment if possible... or, at least a Federal judgeship if she wants it.

Just fun speculation -- like talking about "Lost."

24. I could definitely get behind it
I was thinking about it on my long, rainy commute to work today. I THINK it's something that the DNC, the candidates, and reasonable supporters (not "supporters) can all get behind. Everybody gets something they want, and America will win also.

As I said -- it's fun speculating!

6. Either would mean a McCain victory. Hillary is too much of a RW
lightning rod. She'll bring out the Goopers in force in a year when they don't have any hot-button issues nationwide (e.g. gay marriage).

Please don't forget that we need to pick up several seats in the Senate and increase our majority in the House or it won't matter who is in the WH.

7. Agreed.
In this scenario, It makes much more sense for it to be a Hillary-Obama ticket than the other way around, especially for our party, and all democrats in the long run. No, I still support Obama, but in this scenario, I'm trying to see whats best for us in the bigger picture is all.

9. The Democrats will lose no matter where she is on the ticket.
She is the GOP's GOTV machine. All of those lovely little midwestern states that Obama carried, those will belong to McCain. She has zero viability as a presidential general election candidate and undermines the viability of the ticket even in the VP slot. With her on the tickets, the Dems cannot win.

So, why don't we just make it Clinton-Clinton and go down in a blaze of glory?

11. If I were well ahead in the delegate count and popular vote, there's no way in hell
I'd accept a "deal" like that. This is being floated by Hillary's camp because they know she can't get there alone anymore. Obama still can! The part I find nuts is how she rises to the top of the ticket in this scenario. I'd grant her VP at best, and if she won't accept, we'll see her go down at the convention.

14. before we all start counting 12 or 16 years of 'rule'...
can someone delineate the programs and actions that the next president AND congress will have to undertake to fix the problems this country faces?

the next president may likely be one term and out...

the chickens coming home to roost will be on the next president, and bush & co. will be long gone...

nobody blames the guy who's gone, they take it out on the guy who's in place...

17. Well... I am a Clintonista
But I can see the wisdom of Obama/Clinton.

I'll be happy with either combination, tho!

I just want to unite, in the end, and deal a death blow to the GOP.
