I just saw him on MSNBC, and he's enthusiastic about the campaign continuing through his state. That might seem opportunistic for him and his interests there, but he's not given to propping up lost causes. He gave a pragmatic fight for Gore in Florida, and he's offering strong representation for Hillary Clinton's campaign in Pennsylvania. He said something about Clinton moving up to a half percentage behind Obama if she sweeps his state, so he's bullish on her continuing. I think we're in for seven weeks of turbulence, ending with an Ohio-type campaign in Pennsylvania by the Clinton campaign which could add to her totals and keep the nomination in suspense. Like it or not, this race isn't over.

1. Rendell has never seemed like a man of convictions
If the tide of super delegates starts flipping away from Hillary expect him to cave like a wet cardboard box in a monsoon.

4. exactly. That's what I'm getting at. He's a good measure of the bottom line

If he's in, it's on. If he folds, it's over, considering her next big chance is in his state.

2. I'll never forget that slimy bastard going on CNN after the SCOTUS...
gave Bush the presidency and told everyone that Gore should step down. He never bothered to check with the Gore folks before he threw him under the bus. What a POS.

That's why I thought it was interesting how strongly he was urging the Clinton campaign on.

3. a current 9% lead is not a compelling reason to drag this out for seven more weeks.

10. maybe not, but, there it is.
Rendell represents something significant in the next destination for this process. If he withers away, so does ANY scheme the Clinton camp has for continuing, at least until Pennsylvania.

5. Of course he wants it to last through PA
He'll get 7 weeks of every news show having him on asking his opinion. What better way to increase his national profile? It also would pump money into the local economy.

6. It may go on
But she'll need 100% of PA to close the delegate gap.

19. He's the one who would solve MI and FL by shooting Howard Dean.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1872

"Rendell said the Clinton camp could not make a convincing case that Michigan delegates should be added to her column: "You can't make any argument in Michigan, because Hillary was the only person who was on the ballot. I'm as avid a Hillary supporter as there is, but I don't think we can make an argument in Michigan."

In Florida, Rendell said, the Clinton campaign can mount a "tenable argument" that delegates should be awarded.

....Asked how the party should resolve the impasse, Rendell said, jokingly:

"Shoot (DNC Chairman) Howard Dean.""

21. He wants FL and MI to vote again
I dunno what he expects to happen over the next two or three months. Clinton still needs to have endless 60% wins to just eek out a win in the pledged delegate count.
