Obama/Gore: A Second Look?
The other day, someone here posted a thread asking if DUers thought Gore may be a potential running mate for Obama. Most people who responded didn't seem to think it was in the cards, that Gore wouldn't want VP. While I didn't post to the thread, I, too, thought it was a long shot.

But, I was listening to Ed Schultz on the way to work this am and a caller called in with a well-reasoned suggestion as to why an Obama/Gore ticket makes perfect sense. His thought was that no way did Gore ever want to run against Hillary Clinton -- that's why he kept his powder dry, so to speak. And that by accepting VP with Obama, it's such a powerful ticket, that it is a guaranteed 50 state sweep nation wide, allowing him to run for President in 2016, affording the Dems a potential lock of the Presidency for 16 years. Imagine the impact of an Obama/Gore ticket -- how powerful would that be?!

Call me nuts, but is this a crazy idea? Any ideas on whether Gore would do this? Wishful thinking?

It's a guaranteed loss.

3. A Guranteed loss...WTF?
I think it would be a very powerful ticket...but unrealistic and I doubt it'll happen.

4. It's a nice theory, but why would Al want to be VP again?
He didn't want to run for PRESIDENT. I'd like to see him as a part of the administration, as a senior advisor, provided that he'd be completely independent. I have no idea whether or not Obama would like that, though.

5. Yeah, I know what you're saying -- likely not gonna happen
But, I had never factored in before that Gore may not have wanted to go up against Hillary -- I guess the question is, does he ever want to be president? If so, this would be one way to make that a possibility.

13. It would give him the most powerful position to fight climate change
I don't think he will do it, but there is a certain logic to it.

It could be great for America.

7. Listening to Schultz is your first mistake.
He is a right winger at heart. I know how he treated his first wife from a friend in Fargo. I wouldn't spit on him if he were on fire.

IMHO.

10. Actually
I never really liked him. He sounds like Rush to me. But, I switch b/w him, NPR and Rush in the morning just to get my blood boiling.

8. No way
Al has a higher stature than Obama at this point. Al's been a senator, a vice president for 8 years, and an acclaimed public figure. What incentive could he possibly have to, in effect, regress. He'd be teaching Obama what to do, and he'd never be granted the power to be the evil force behind the scenes, a la Darth Cheney. Obama's daddy isn't running the show. GHW Bush is.

11. Can he even run as a VP again?
I agree, actually. My post was more just food for thought and imagining how nice it would be to see him have another stab at a run for POTUS.

12. I hear you
Can you imagine how exciting it would be if Al were running for President? Oh, man. Gore/Clark. I can only dream...

9. It would be demeaning to a statesman of Gore's stature to be offered VP
He has done that. If he doesn't want President, then he's not going to be on any ticket.

14. Never happen!
Gore is so far above Obama that I cannot see he would ever agree to be VP.
