Bush Campaign officials are idiots
Why on Earth are they keeping this Richard Clarke story in the news?

Every time they attack him, what he has reported is mentioned. Also, it demonstrates that anyone who critizes the Bush Administration are mercilessly attacked by their minions.

This reminds me of the AWOL story. The GOP, in their haste, trying to attack the messenger only ensured the survival of the story. That led to the comparisons of Bush's and Kerry's wartime records. Everytime the story was brought up (usually by the GOP) the reporter would be forced to mention that: a) George Bush was a national guardsman; b) Kerry was a war hero.

I'm not sure why people think Karl Rove is so brilliant. I'm beginning to wonder if he has any intelligence at all.

1. One theory
Is that Clarke is so damaging to the camp-aign's portrayal of dubya as "a strong, steady leader" and as a "war president" that they absolutely have to destroy his credibility.

4. Because it worked last time
They are just using the same techniques they used against Clinton and Gore. During the last election - it worked because they had no record to which a reference could be made.

Agree about Rove - he is really just good at singing "one note."

5. Polls
the only polls that show bush leading are terror or war related. If they loose this they have nothing. Thats why stupid is coached to say " I'm a war president " every time he gets an audience.

6. Rove isn't brilliant, he's vicious.
He was Donald Segretti's senior aide, for Gawd's sake. He learned about dirty tricks from the king of the White House Plumbers.

The reason Rove has been as successful as he has thus far is because progressives are generally not willing to go as far into the cesspoll to win as he is.

That's changed in 2004. Dems are willing and able to roll up their sleeves and go toe-to-toe in a street-fight with Rove.

7. The Daily Show is brilliant
I've given up on the 11pm news because Jon Stewart does it better!

Last night he had clips of Condi Rice, Scott McClellan, and someone else all parroting precisely the same words about Clarke. It was hysterical (probably literally, come to think of it). Someone wrote them the script, they all memorized it, and no one thought to tell them that maybe they should "try to put this in your own words so it sounds like you personally gave it some thought."

More than one "news" program described the WH response to Clarke's book as "savage," and enumerated the number of shows Condi appeared on while refusing to appear before the 9-11 Commission.

Speaking of which, 9-11 Commissioners also made that point: Condi had time to go on half a dozen morning shows, but not to appear under oath to testify.

I say let's hope they continue making themselves look stupid and vicious.
