Tonight I was driving home and our local Montana Public Radio Station (KUFM) had a long interview with Winona LaDuke. Winona LaDuke is this evening's Presidential lecturer at the University of Montana.
Fascinating interview. She's a Native American woman , a terrific speaker and a long time environmental and social justice activist.
She said (I'm paraphrasing here) "Barack Obama "Is the right person at the right time for the job."
She went on to talk about how they have similar backgrounds in community organizing and how Obama does excellent analysis on how to change the fundamental relationships of power.
She also said she's not bashing Ralph at all, he's a great man and a friend, but she's voting Obama and that other people should vote for who they believe is best for the job, whether it's Ralph Obama, or whoever.
The interviewer asked about her relationship with Democrats after 2000 and she said, 'It's funny, when we wanted into the debates they told us our campaign wasn't a factor. Then after the election they were mad at us because, according to them, our campaign was a factor.'
I find this endorsement to be really cool, and the interview covered a lot of different areas.
In 2000 I thought Winona should have been on the top of the Green ticket.
All I can say is Obama sure can put together a broad based coalition.
The audio should be up after midnight on 2/26/08 in the AM.
