Is Kerry going to announce his VP choice after his vacation?
The timing of this trip is a little strange. It may be that there is more going on then anyone knows. Is he skiing all day, or just out for photo ops?

Anyway chimp's been stealing Kerry's thunder lately so I'm thinking Kerry has something up his sleeve that will take the thunder back.

Any thoughts?

1. in Time this past week
The article on the campaign mentioned something about Kerry's people considering a VP annoucement in May rather than waiting until the summer. That's all I've heard, though.

And I'm not so sure the timing of this trip is strange. According to that same Time article Kerry hasn't taken a vacation since two days he took during the holidays. He's probably exhausted and now that the primaries are over he decided to take some time off. I think that's understandable and not really a big deal. It's only March, after all. He's got plenty of time to counter these attacks. I, for one, can't wait for the debates.

2. Kerry had cancer at the beginning of his campaign
during recovery, he immediately and relentlessly was attacked by Howard Dean. He went on to win most of the primaries - lost only 2 by slim margins. I think the man needs a friggin vacation - he needs to rest to FIGHT!

3. Correction.
Minor correction, but Kerry lost three primaries. Clark won OK, Edwards won SC, and Dean won VT.

I think Kerry has earned a vacation too.

4. Kerry definitly deserved this vacation
He's been campaigning around the clock for months & Months.

Remember, Shrub is always in bed by 10:00, & travels with his own pillow.

I would have preferred a more low key vacation, politically speaking, but to criticize Kerry for some time off is silly.

5. I tend to agree with posts #'s 1-3
Kerry was in need of a vacation, you know, sleeping past 5AM, putting in a normal day and relaxing a bit. The only timely element to this vacation is that he waited until he had clinched the nomination before resting up.

It's going to be a long, hard fight and it's important that Kerry be physically up to the demands of the campaign. I believe that sometimes the "quality" of a Kerry speech or appearance is directly related to how well rested the candidate is. There were some appearances during the early primaries where the man looked absolutely exhausted, probably because he had good reason to be exhausted. But, we can't afford that anymore. Taking a week to rest and recuperate now was a smart move and well timed too.

And no, I don't think he will come down from the mountaintop with his VP selection. I fail to see any reason why he would buck the tradition of naming his VP the week of the convention. Why not keep that buzz going for another 4 months.

7. You are right on the need for rest
When he is tired, he seems to speak softly, and he needs to be strong in speech, that is when he scores points

something for you younger people to watch and alert his campaign about, once in a Carter's first campaign ...Carter sounded like he wasn't close enough to the mike, it was then his polls fell, I think I tried to let them know about this, can't remember Watch this problem and notify him if he sounds like he isn't speaking to the mike, I figure the networks can give the same sound if they so desire.

8. He probably would have made more slip-ups without a vacation...
When there are slip-ups like "Foreign leaders support me" and "crooks and criminals" (although that one may have been planned, we'll never know!) I think that's a sign it's time for a rest, especially for a candidate who is normally such a careful speaker.

6. Kerry needed a vacation after 7 months of 20-hour days
And as for his VP choice, he shouldn't yet. That won't happen until July.

9. Yes, Kerry is going to announce his VP after this vacation
Unless he has a way of turning back time, it's too late to announce it before this vacation. (Sorry for being a smartass. I couldn't resist the temptation to take a cheap shot)
