What should Obama do about MI and FL when he gets the nomination?
Is there any possible after-the-fact damage control that can make FL and MI voters feel relevant again? Or will this be a major problem for the party in the general election?

Should Hillary get the nomination she obviously doesn't face the same problem since she has argued in favor of letting those primaries count. I just worry about how Obama could handle this although I'm sure he has something in mind.

1. Even Paul Begala (sp?) is calling for new Caucuses in those states.
If Obama has the nomination locked up he can seat the delegates and it won't matter. (except that it may encourage others to break party rules in the future)

If FL and/or MI can change the outcome of the nomination then those states are screwed. Maybe they (we) will not break the rules next time.

4. So what if the latter happens?

If FL and MI get screwed and Obama is the nominee, is there something he can do to win back Florida voters in the general? Or will they feel disenfranchised and hurt our chance of making FL blue? It seems to me that he's in a no win situation at the moment but maybe it's not a big deal and all will be forgotten come November.

amendment (Fla), knowing full well that's all I was doing.

HB 537 passed with almost no 'nay' votes, so we can't blame it all on a republican majority legislature. I suggest we (Fla) allow all the incumbents' terms to expire with no reelection for them.

11. Good to hear.
So do people in FL basically not care? Or if they do they blame it on the state party officials hopefuly?

12. The few folks I talked to blame the party officials some, and the
legislature more. HB 537 went through both houses with fewer than 10 'nay' votes from what I can find on the Fla website. I don't think we can rightly put all the blame on the republican majority because it appears that the elected dems went along.

7. Harold Ickes voted for these sanctions, and Hillary supported them. Until they didn't work for her.

8. What's the problem?
If he wins the nomination, he wins the nomination. Delegates only count in the convention; Floridians and Michaganders still have the same vote in the general election that they always had.

If Obama somehow clinches the nomination because of the disallowing of these delegates, that's another matter. As for smoothing their ruffled feathers, I don't think we should. Welcome them back in and encourage moves to change party rules on the order of the primaries, but remind people that any state that chooses to pull this crap in the future will also be deprived of its say come convention time.

Civilization is based on mutual respect and adherence to agreed-upon rules. If they didn't like the rules, they should have quit the party, worked to change them or voiced their concerns and acted like grownups; if we let people disregard rules as they please, it'll be a free-for-all that only benefits the wealthiest and most popular candidates.

9. At his acceptance speech he should end by saying, "and now

10. Ask that the people of those states demand a new vote.
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 07:19 AM by Zachstar
If the states do not want to have another vote then the people need to show them whats up when they run for reelection! By voting them out!

It is not Clinton's OR Obama's issue anymore. It needs to be dropped like a hot potato.

If people want to vote for revenge instead of the issues and leadership then they deserve McCain.

THEY CHEATED!

HAVE A NEW VOTE! or STOP THIS MADNESS!

I have not read all the replies to this topic as of this post but I can expect many people with Clinton avatars shouting about "Unfair" and "OH NOES!11!! THEY DIDDNT FOLLOW THE RULES SO UNLESS WE BOW DOWN TO THEM THEY WILL GET THEIR REVENGE DURING THE GENERAL!!!!111!!11!1!"
