Feingold: I voted for Obama
David Callender — 2/22/2008 11:59 am

Sen. Russ Feingold said today that he voted for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama in this week's Wisconsin primary and indicated that he likely will vote for Obama's nomination as one of the state's "superdelegates" to the Democratic convention this summer.

"I really do think that at the gut level, this is a chance to do something special" for the nation, Feingold said, adding that electing Obama represents "an enormous historical opportunity for America and for our relationship with the world."

In an interview with the editorial board of The Capital Times, Feingold said he believes that the expected Republican nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain, could prove difficult for Democrats to beat, particularly in hotly contested states like Wisconsin.

-snip-
But when it comes to selecting the nominee at this summer's convention, Feingold said, "I said I would be highly likely to vote for anybody who did very, very well in Wisconsin. And as I see it, somebody won 62 out of 72 counties and all the congressional districts. I'm highly likely to vote for that person."

20. I guess Russ Feingold doesn't matter n/t
Feingold as running mate is an interesting option.

But I am convince that it WON'T be another Senator. And I think that we might be better served keeping Feingold in the senate to drive a progessive agenda there.

12. Feingold doesn't seem to think so
He suggested his own VP pick (George Mitchell).

As I noted in your other post, he and Obama are too much alike and would be attacked as being too liberal. But I'd like to see him in the administration, where he could do more than he's doing as one man in the Senate.

42. George Mitchell is 75 years old this year
I realize that Darth Cheney has functioned as a walking corpse-induced zombie for the past eight years but isn't 75 a bit old for a Veep?

While I understand and agree with the reasons why Feingold wants Obama to select Mitchell -who is an excellent, first-class Democrat- wouldn't his age come into consideration? We also wouldn't be able to use the age issue against McCain if we selected someone older.

all the while pleading for "civility" out of the other. Their modus operandi has been thus, and that trend is accelerating as it becomes increasingly likely that Senator Obama will be our nominee.

Feingold voted NOT GUILTY on both charges.

I can see trying to downplay this, but spreading lies about one of the most respected progressive senators of our time is just beyond the pale.

65. He's also the only Senator to oppose the Patriot Act.
He opposed the war in Iraq. He opposes continuing neo-con foreign policy in Iran like Clinton. He has continuously defended the Constitution from its constant attacks by the Bush administration and Republicans. He strongly favors campaign finance reform and taking the corporate influence out of politics. He supports completely legalizing same-sex marriage.

So I will say again, I wish there were more like him.

39. Fellow Democrats, please stop name calling?
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 10:23 PM by trthnd4jstc
Is it helpful to call fellow democrats names like, Hillbots, or Obamaniacs? We need to grow together, and support each other. Our political opponents are going to wage complete verbal war against us, our candidate for president, and our candidates for the Senate, and the House. We must stand firm, vote, canvass, phone bank, donate, support, write, speak, blog, answer criticisms, etcetera for our cause. The Republicans will not give us a break. We should give one another a break. Let's form the Democratic Party to a be a bigger tent than the Republicans, and for us to be better Americans than the Republicans. Our aim is the effectuation of the Democratic Platform. We may like our candidate over anothers' candidate, yet are we not all Democrats?
