Did you just hear the attack on Obama supporters (CNN)?!
I'm sorry I don't have more info. I had the tv on in the other room and
I saw some guy speaking at a Hillary rally.

This speaker called Obama supporters (direct quote, here), "Birkenstock-wearing,
Trust-fund babies."

I'm sorry I didn't catch more of it, but he slammed all of us and Obama. He made
fun of the Harvard Law Review too.

Oh, the Hillary crowd loved the quote about the Birkenstocks. They went wild!

Strap yourselves in Obama supporters, their not only coming after Obama. They're
coming after you too!

:wow:

If so, MSNBC supposedly asked Clinton whether she agreed with the things said on her behalf and Clinton responded with something along the lines of, "I'm glad to have the support of the union."

I got the impression that the blurb aired on MSNBC was from last night. Can't be sure though since I was in another room when it aired.

21. Here's some of it.. will look for more...
In Youngstown Ohio, prominent Hillary Clinton supporter Thomas Buffenbarger took to the stage to try to warm the crowd up for Hillary Clinton’s arrival. His idea of warming up, apparently, was to launch a vicious attack against Barack Obama. Buffenbarger said,

“The Barack show is playing to rave reviews sold out at college campuses after college campus. Standing room only crowds to hear his silver-tounged orations. Hope, change, yes we can? Give me a break! I’ve got news for all the latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust fund babies crowding in to hear him speak. This guy won’t last a round against the Republican attack machine. He’s a poet, not a fighter.”

I think that what Buffenbarger meant to say is that Barack Obama wouldn’t last a round against Buffenbarger’s attack machine.

Buffenbarger was wrong. Barack Obama lasted. The crowd turned against him. A crowd of people at this Hillary Clinton rally began booing Buffenbarger, yelling at him to stop his cheap shots against Obama, and to get off the stage.

After 2004, I never thought I would hear a Democrat use a phrase like “latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Birkenstock-wearing” as an attack. Who does this Buffenbarger guy think he is? The Club for Growth?

26. "Clinton Supporter Jeered by Antsy Crowd" (Buffenbarger comments)
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 11:00 AM by K Gardner
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/02/20/politics/fromtheroad/entry3850647.shtml?CMP=OTC-RSSFeed&source=RSS&attr=FromTheRoad_3850647

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO -- As the polls were closing in Wisconsin and as early results were showing a victory for Barack Obama, a Clinton supporter here was addressing a crowd at a rally for Hillary Clinton that soon turned into lengthy, angry tirade against Obama, drawing boos from the feisty crowd.

Machinist Union President Thomas Buffenbarger took the stage an hour after Clinton was scheduled to speak (Clinton was running late), and immediately began slamming Obama. "We go with a woman who...is still fighting our battles. That’s our choice. The editor of the Harvard Law Review or a fighter? I have a confession to make, even though our union has endorsed Hillary Clinton and has given and will continue to give her our unwaivering support, I have been moved by Barack Obama’s words: hope, change, yes we can. How can you not be moved by such wonderful, uplifting platitudes so artfully delivered. Watch the junior Senator from Illinois carefully as he deliveres his best lines he cocks his head up, lifts his nose up and turns his ear so he can hear the roars of his adoring crowds. It is a trained thespians move," said Buffenbarger who later continued his attack on Obama for nearly 10 minutes.

Buffenbarger likened Obama to a “shadow boxer” who is all show and no action. He said Obama consistently “walks away from a fight” and even took issue with his young group of supporters.

"The Barack show is playing to rave reviews sold out at college campuses after college campus. He’s a poet, not a fighter."

The crowd grew increasingly hostile toward Buffenbarger, so much so that AFSCME president Gerald McEntee took the stage in hopes of moving Buffenbarger along, who at this point was well into his attacks on Obama. It is unclear whether the crowd’s boos were in response to his negative comments toward Obama or the length of his speech.

54. Thanks for posting the story
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 11:39 AM by Tom Rinaldo
Seems like the Clinton supporters at the Rally weren't pleased with the approach that Buffenbarger took, and that the AFSCME president was aware of that also and tried to tactfully, non verbally, intervene.

Neither campaign seems to have an appetite for directly calling out Union leaders who support them over the way they support them. Obama stayed silent when asked to comment on the potentially race baiting radio ads that a union aired for him in Nevada. Unions have clout precisely because they are organized. Let's just say that it is at least a little awkward for a candidate to dress down a Union leader who is openly supporting them.

40. "Clinton Junkyard Dog Unleashed on Obama"... ("Obama no Muhammad Ali")
(still looking for video but this is a good summary: "Obama is no Muhammad Ali")

From NBC's Abby Livingston
Oh snap! Who needs a Rottweiler when you’ve got surrogates?

Tom Buffenbarger president of the machinists' union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) was the the latest in a string of Clinton junkyard dogs unleashed upon Obama. Prior to Hillary Clinton’s speech last night in Youngstown, Ohio, Buffenbarger delivered nothing short of an Obama diatribe.

While campaign introductions typically sing the praises of the upcoming candidate, Buffenbarger's speech barely mentioned Clinton until the conclusion. It was all about Obama, and it was laced with venom and ad hominems.

Buffenbarger called Obama a “thespian,” and he sarcastically referred to the junior senator from Illinois as a “wunderkind.” He compared Obama to “Janus, the two-faced Roman god of ancient times.” And he pleaded with the crowd to boo Obama’s labor record.

Early in his speech, Buffenbarger asked, “So now we have a decision to make. Will we rely on the Harvard Law Review editor? The silver-tongued orator from Kansas, Hawaii and Illinois? The man in love with the microphone?”

Taking off the gloves, he said, “Barack Obama is no Muhammad Ali. He took a walk every time there was a tough vote in the Illinois State Senate. He took a walk more than a 130 times. That's what a shadow boxer does. All the right moves. All the right combinations. All the right footwork. But he never steps into the ring.”

But it was Obama supporters for whom Buffenbarger saved his most vitriolic contempt, and he proved that the Democratic Party’s coalition is nothing if not fragile. Channeling Howard Beale from the movie "Network," he yelled into the microphone, “Give me a break! I've got news for all the latte-drinking, Prius- driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust fund babies crowding in to hear him speak! This guy won't last a round against the Republican attack machine. He's a poet, not a fighter.”

With all this trash talk, who needs a Thrilla in Manilla?
