I think these Kerry postmortems are a bit premature....
..on many levels. Don't get me wrong. Every single day I get more and more nervous when I see what bushco is pulling out and what they are willing to do. But haven't we learned by now what happens when we count Kerry out and assume the worst? And I'm not from Mass, but my understanding is that all of his campaigns have worked the same ways. He doesn't fight every single battle, but he does when it counts and it usually ends up working.

I'm not saying he's going to be sitting back and doing nothing, but I think that as depressing as it is for me to see him taking these hits, I'm also seeing how it shows buscho to be floundering. The election is 7 months away and they are throwing everything but the kitchen sink out there already. "It's Clinton's fault....no its because he voted against the $87 billion....name the foreign leaders....if you vote against bush the terrorists win!!....Spain is a bunch of appeasers". When bush got hit with the new charges of AWOL, that was on the news for a week....when he was getting attacked throughout the dem primary process that was the focus. But now with them going after Kerry with everything it is making it impossible for the propaganda machine to focus on one individual thing and therefore for harder for Joe Average Voter to get too worked up about any one individual thing.

Am I 100% comfortable with everything that is happening, and do I think that these attacks will do no damage? No. Do I have my worries? You bet. But I think that there is some wisdom to not having the candidate himself out there attacking 24/7. He's giving speeches, he's responding to negative ads, and some things he's just letting go and slide right off of him.

I do wish that more Dems were out there pounding the pavement for him in a more visible manner on TV, but I'm also not too sure that the media would give them the time of day. Its much easier to put Susan Estrich or Pat Caddel on as the token democrats on a talking head panel discussion.

2. Agreed, we should be determined, not worried.
Look, worry if you want, but don't act on that worry. Rather, be determined and act on that determination.

3. Excellent post
Alot of people here need to develop a longer term focus instead of acting whipsawed ever 12 hours.

4. Proof that you are correct

Many of the people predicting Kerry's defeat were the very same people who were predicting Dean's inevitable victory or arguing after Super Tuesday that "Kerry hasn't won the nomination yet."

5. It's way too early for ANYONE to be worried
This thing won't be decided until September or October.

6. That's a great post
You make some excellent points. If Kerry can survive this barrage, what will the WH have left? It's tough to watch, but you put all of it in the right perspective.

7. Kerry postmortems?
As a Dean supporter, and someone who's primary concern about Kerry was a perception that he'd roll over like all other Democrats these past four years, I have to say I am incredibly impressed with his campaign so far.

The Reps are clutching at straws. The foreign leaders thing? Please. If this is what they've been reduced to then we are sitting mighty pretty as far as I can tell. I can't think of a single attack that hasn't backfired or quickly been brushed aside.

The ONE minor complaint I might have is the campaign's response to the latest Bush ad. From what I read on Talking Points Memo it seems real easy for Kerry to quickly defend his vote and turn it around on Bush. Bush is, after all, the one who wanted to cut troop pay. For those people who aren't political junkies and don't really follow the blogs, though, the points made on TPM need to be made in the mainstream. Maybe Kerry has made them and they haven't been played, I don't know, but I think a bit more aggression is needed for this latest round, mostly because it could really cut into Bush's alleged strength, defense.

8. Premature's too kind
These whiners are the cut-and-run Democrats we hear so much about from the other side. They do exist...and they are us. Or a part of us anyway. Carville says Kerry's going to win this thing 53-47. I think that's conservative.
