Its not about the technicalities of plagiarism, its about passing off a belief that was someone elses as your own, its about misrepresentation, its about defrauding the people who are considering hiring him.

68. So every song that uses "I Love You" is plagiarizing the person
who first used those words?

This whole plagiarism thing is a bit odd to me.

I can see an issue if one sits down and copies part of a book and presents it as his/her own to a publisher..

BUT..

turns of phrase cannot be seen in the same light..

How many people have used "I have a Dream" or the other excepts used by BOTH Patrick and Obama?

Remember how apeshit nuts we all went over the "Let's Roll" copyright thing?

ALL campaigns "borrow" , and do it liberally, from other candidates as they try to capture the novelty of their speeches and or campaign rhetoric.

Preachers do it every Sunday when they hold services.. teachers do it every day when they lecture their students..

7. Is it Fraud if he and the Gentlman work together and often exchange
text and slogans. Obama credited the Gentleman for the line late last year.

What is the rule for plagerism? When you first acknowledge another source you notate it. You don't have to notate it everytime you use it since you already acknowledged the quote or material.

The Gentleman also stated that he has given Obama permission to use the quotes/text.

Folks this is a non issue.

I voted for Hillary in the Washington State Caucus so I am not picking sides.

12. that is utter bullshit, brotha!
If I feel strongly about an idea or set of ideas and I talk to others about it all of the time, there are going to be times that I look for help and examples. You DO NOT WANT TO GO HERE! There are so many examples of how just about every national politican--let alone HILLARY HERSELF--uses phrases and ideas that resonate and have possibly been used before.

For you to claim that just because he was moved and inspired by another's close words and they used each other's mind set and philosophy to both do well is wrong....well, it is moral bankruptcy. It means you'd much rather elect someone who has cheated, lied, and stolen her whole life merely because she is chop blocking him and they are dirtily going after every element of dignity in this race.

You're wrong, empty, sad.....I cannot believe you're a Democrat.

22. Nonsense.
Obama has said that Patrick has taken some of the stuff he wrote.

By the way, Obama has speech writers - one of whom wrote for JFK.

The stuff that Obama said about words - was not written by his speech writers - but was said off the cuff.
I know, because I was following along the prepared released speech, and did not see anything about "words" in the speech that was released.

He ad-libbed it - and he did not quote verbatim what Patrick said. He just used the general theme.

It is always better to know one's facts before passing judgment.

I have seen some stupid political tricks in my time but this is definitely in the running for number 1 stupid trick.

Desperation can do strange things to people, I suppose, especially politicians.

IMO, Hillary is trying to turn the Democratic party into a replica of the Karl Rove slash and burn machine.

Did you see the MSNBC story tonight???

Obama should have referenced his friends couple of sentences - ooops - guess he is human.

99% + of Obama's words are from Obama --- so were the words in his book (with sited references).

MSNBC then went on to point out Hillary did the same damn thing - and actually plagiarized Bill from a speech he gave 2 years before.

In the end - this is all NO BIG DEAL for either candidate!

And your on a seek and destroy mission Seeker30 - a minor mistake and now Obama is a fraud?

What unmitigated bullshit.
