"JUST WORDS?"
Just a heads up, HILLARY/MARK (BLACKWATER) PENN'S and the GOP's meme for the next news cycle:

“Speeches don’t put food on the table,” said Mrs. Clinton, of New York. “Speeches don’t fill up your tank, or fill your prescription, or do anything about that stack of bills that keeps you up at night.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/17/us/politics/17obama.html

Obama explains what Hillary just doesn't understand about great leaders:

February 17th, 2008 12:08 AM Eastern

Obama - “Just words?”

“The most important thing we can do right now is to reengage the American people in the process of governance. To get them excited and interested again in what works and what can work in our government, to make politics cool again and important again and relevant again. Don’t tell me words don’t matter,” he said, voice rising.

To hammer it home, Obama then evoked some of the most memorable lines from our nation’s greatest speeches to make the point that words can, in fact, matter and make a difference. “‘I have a dream!’ Just words. ‘We hold these truths to be self evident that all me are created equal.’ Just words. ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ Just words. Just speeches,” he said.

“It’s true that speeches don’t solve all problems, but what is also true is if we cannot inspire the country to believe again, then it doesn’t matter how many policies and plans we have, and that is why I am running for president of the United States of America, and that is why we just won 8 elections straight, because the American people want to believe in change again. Don’t tell me words don’t matter!”

It’s unclear if the candidate thinks his words are on par with those above spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and FDR, but yesterday at a rally in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Obama did agree that his oratory skills are above average.

The difference is that those guys had actions to back up their oratory skills. They didn't just spout empty cliches like some TV preacher.

13. Obama actually has the record, not Hillary
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427.
** First legislation, the HOPE Act, which increased Pell Grants to $5100, and later joined Senator Kennedy on the Higher Education legislation that passed July 20, by a vote of 78-18. That legislation also included funding for Predominantly Black Colleges to assist with counseling, tutoring and other needs of low income students. It also creates the Teaching Residency Act which will create a school-based teacher preparation program in high needs schools to provide each teacher with a mentor, content instruction, classroom management skills, a master’s degree and state certification, and a 2 year follow-up program.
**The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
** The “Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act.
** S116 - Summer Learning demonstration project to provide summer learning grants and encourage new teaching methods.
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee),
and many more.

In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.

An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no legislative record

16. Obamites keep posting that but the truth is he has passed only 1 or 2 bills he wrote
The number varies and Obamites have not cleared it up. One was to rename a post office and the other was to intervene in the Congo. Did both pass or only one? If one did it was likely the former.

Bill Sponsorship & Cosponsorship

Statistics: Barack Obama has sponsored 129 bills since Jan 4, 2005, of which 120 haven't made it out of committee (Poor) and 1 were successfully enacted (Average, relative to peers). Obama has co-sponsored 545 bills during the same time period (Average, relative to peers).

18. Haha, you guys keep copying and pasting that
However...

This is what he actually got PASSED IN THE SENATE:

S.RES.133 : A resolution celebrating the life of Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson.
Sponsor: Sen Obama, Barack (introduced 3/28/2007)

S.RES.268 : A resolution designating July 12, 2007, as "National Summer Learning Day".
Sponsor: Sen Obama, Barack (introduced 7/11/2007)

Impressive

And by the way, in the U.S. Senate, Clinton has authored 352 bills, and co-sponsored 1713 bills.

17. Yup. The hype for Obama knows no bounds. By the way he copied his speech off of Deval Patrick
The agent of change can't even express himself without plagiarizing a speech from Patrick? I can't believe Biden was taken down in 88' for allegedly doing (it was BS. He always attributed the speech but forgot to do it once and the Dukakis oppo research team used it to take him out) what Obama just blatantly did.

40. Plagiarism of the same level knocked Biden out of the race in 1988.
This needs a thread of its own if it hasn't had one already.

If Obama really used the exact words "just words" and then really used both the "we hold these truths to be self evident" and "the only thing we have to fear..." quotes, that's clearly plagiarism. Your video link is pretty damning.

Joe Biden dropped out of his 1988 presidential run for the same level of scandal when he "borrowed" the words of Neil Kinnock.

11. I've been saying that for awhile. Hope doesn't fill the oil tank, change doesn't feed the kids.
He needs to stop with the vague themes and get specific.

He just doesn't inspire me, either. I don't think he's a bad guy, at all... but I think he's over his head. He seems a bit irritable when he talks one-on-one, down in the weeds, too--like he wants a cigarette, or something.

I'm just not moved by him. I actually tried to warm up to the guy--no sale. I think his oratory skills are fine, if you're into soaring speeches about 'ideas'...but sometimes, he's a bit...fulsome.

22. Barbara Bush Calls Bill Clinton 'Son'
Last I heard, we had a form of democracy here in the US.
28 years of Bush Bush Bush Clinton Clinton Bush Bush is enough.

But as for right wingers, Bill Clinton has his nose stuck right up the butts of the Bushes.

Lets see, isnt Bubba supposed to be like a long lost son to Barbara Bush?

At Info Wars, read how Bill (aka Slick Willie) is proud to tell people that

Barbara Bush Calls Bill Clinton 'Son'

June 17, 2005

Former President Bill Clinton discussed his relationship with President Bush's father last night on CBS LATE SHOW.

Clinton: "I think we're good friends. I like him very much. I've always liked him. When he was vice president, I was still a governor. We worked together on a number of things. He hosted the governors, in 1983...at Kennebunkport."

When they made an announcement about raising funds for Tsunami relief in Houston former First Lady Barbara Bush "announced us. And she said she has started to call me son. I told the Republicans there, I said don't worry, every family has one, you know, the black sheep. I told them, this just shows you the lengths the Bushes would go to get another president in the family. I wish I could get them to adopt Hillary."

33. Corporate America wont have to steal votes from Obama
all they will have to do is deduct some, no one gets suspicious, the race looks to be divided/ no uprising everyone is happy, corporate gets their candidate. We all go back to sleep, till the next election.
:boring:

Clinton vs McCain easily divides us.

Obama vs McCain. Obama kicks McCains ass, thats where Corporate has a problem, in order to make the election appear close they have to steal the votes we give Obama, in order to make the election appear close, Remember we have to believe the election has us divided, divided we fall(or do not fight).

what are they good for
Absolutely (nothing)
geh, say it again

Words, when well chosen, have so great a force in them that a description often gives us more lively ideas than the sight of things themselves.
- Joseph Addison

Words are the voice of the heart.
- Confucius

By words the mind is winged.
- Aristophanes

Words are things; and a small drop of ink,
Falling like dew upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.
- Lord Byron (George Gordon Noel Byron)

Words are the soul's ambassadors, who go
Abroad upon her errands to and fro.
- James Howell (Howel), Of Words

It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the--if he--if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement. . . . Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true.
- William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton,
in a deposition during the Paula Jones/Monica Lewinsky matter

Words are also actions, and actions are a kind of words.

41. Well said!
In the private sector, any businessman worth his salt will tell you that marketing is important. You can make an awesome product, but if you don't have marketing, hardly anyone will buy it.

That's the case in the public sector too.

Why do our politicians spend so much time up on the podium making speeches if words don't matter? They've got to sell their product - their vision for how to bring America forward.

And quite frankly, Obama is orders of magnitude better at podium-marketing than Clinton is. I'm sorry, but you can see it by looking at the crowds that each candidate draws.

What do issues matter if we can't go from policy-wonking to lawmaking and implementation. We have to sell our product. The GOP knows this - they've been feeding the American public bullshit for years, successfully. If we don't market our product, our agenda for a better America, they will.
