The Art of the Well - Placed Ellipsis

From a Bush campaign press release:

"In My First Hundred Days In The White House, I Will Roll Back George
Bush's Tax Cut..." (Sen. John Kerry, Remarks In Manchester, N.H.,
12/27/03)

From Kerry's actual remarks:

"In my first hundred days in the White House, I will roll back George
Bush's tax cut for the wealthiest so that we can invest in education
and health care."

That reminds me of those quotes that are put on the boxes of really bad movies, such as "A...wild ride...Keanu Reeves is (great)!" --Obscure Review Weekly

Expect a lot more of this ridiculously brutal butchering throughout the year, courtesy of the GOP.

"George W. Bush is...doing a good job on both the War on Terror and on the economy!"

2. Deja Vu
Reminds me of the way Drudge butchered up Clark's House Armed Services Committe testimony with his creative use of ellipses. And they get all fussed up when somebody calls them for what they really are, crooks!

4. It IS a timeworn device that works, and works well.
Unfortunately, a great many people don't understand that such quotes are not complete, and most generally taken out of context. Politicians, especially republicans are masters at this type of practice.
