I voted early this morning in the Potomac (Virginia) Primary.
I proudly voted for Obama, and spend part of my morning calling everyone that I knew who was supporting Obama and making sure they went out to vote today. I am in a small district about an hour south of Richmond, Virginia. One of the polling volunteer's said she was expecting a larger turn out considering how things had been happening in the other states, but I went out to vote very early. Most normally vote where I live later this evening. Additionally, I live in an area with a lot of older people (age 50+) and it's fairly cold and damp today.

The few that were there (about four others) were all voting in the Democratic Primary, and if I had to guess I would say that they were all coming out to vote for Obama. (In addition to old white folks, my polling area has a higher than average concentration of African Americans... I was the only white person there.)

I would say that so far turnout seems to be equal to a Presidential Election. I am very proud and glad that finally, for once, as a Virginian - the place where America really got its start - the home of Thomas Jefferson - that our voices finally got a say. Our vote is important. I've gotten lots of phone calls today, all of them from the Obama campaign and one recording from Governor Tim Kaine urging us to go out and vote for Obama.

I have not received a call from the Hillary Campaign, however in the last two days I've received five calls from the Obama Campaign, and most everyone I know is excited that our votes are really counting this time.

Gobama! I'm changing my avatar today. I urge anyone in DC, Maryland or Virginia who has not voted today to go out and vote, and call everyone you know to remind them as well. We may never get this opportunity again.

1. Thanks for telling us your experience
Do you think it odd that Clinton people didn't call you? Have they called in the past? Have you heard of others who were called by them? Sounds like Obama's organization is doing a good job of calling to get out the vote.

4. Yeah, I found it odd.
It's hard to say if we'd be getting calls normally. We occasionally get a call or two during the Presidential Election, but we've never been in a contested primary (so long as I've been alive, at least - I'm 25 years old). We've gotten five from the Obama Campaign - two yesterday and three today. I've seen Obama ads on TV and heard him several times on the radio. He's really organized and good at getting his message out. I don't think I've seen a Hillary ad at all. It's like she isn't even in the race.

Of course, keep in mind - I'm in the southern part of Virginia. She has practically zero chance down here. I live in the highly conservative part of the state, and we have a higher than average concentration of African American's down here (in proportion to the rest of the state - and many other states). So... she might be focusing her money in the northern part of the state. That is probably her best shot - but Obama should also run strong up there. That's where most of the highly educated whites are located.

But yeah... I was actually surprised to get a recorded call from the Governor today. I mean, I knew he endorsed, but I wasn't expecting him to really go that far. He is really popular within the state and managed to win over (by a slim margin) my highly conservative district.

5. Yes, I (and everyone else I know) believes Obama can carry Virginia in the GE.
It is one of the main reasons I support him. I want my state to go blue. Kerry did fairly well here, but I believe Obama can win it. If he can take Virginia in the GE, and another state, then he doesn't need Florida or Michigan.
