(It calls up a stereotype that is insulting to women -- the same way black people are insulted by someone likening them to drug dealers or good-rhythm dancers who eat watermelon. For what it's worth, Media Whores Online was one of my favorite sites. I think sex work should be legal or decriminalized. I think the plight of streetwalkers with pimps is often a sad one of desperation, but there are also sex workers who've made the choice quite deliberately, and I think that's fine (and think legalization could put pimps out of business).

So it's not about prostitution or the word "whore," just as it's not about "great rhythm" or watermelon, which are not offensive words -- the context has to be considered.
