Wes Clark Emailed me.. and all Kerry supporters
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 11:13 AM by mb7588a
On the road with John Kerry these past few weeks, meeting and talking with many of you, I have been consistently inspired by your patriotism and devotion to our democratic cause. Even though my campaign has ended, the campaign for America's future continues on. I've asked my supporters to join me in standing up for the man I believe will bring change to this country, and I'd like to send you a similar message now.

Why did I endorse John Kerry? Put simply, he has the right experience to beat George W. Bush. John has a great plan to bring back jobs and prosperity, provide affordable health care for all, move our economy forward into the 21st century, and make America safer and stronger in the world. I know that during the course of this election you've heard similar promises from many candidates, but I believe John Kerry will make it happen.

Together, I will work with John and you to do everything we can to help return the White House to its rightful owners -- the American people. We'll do everything we can to help you win back a future of opportunity and prosperity for all Americans. George W. Bush has had three long years to keep our country moving forward -- but instead, he's done nothing but set us back.

If you're as committed to change as I am, I hope you'll think hard about what you believe in, and support John through a contribution. I urge you to support our cause with a contribution of $25, $50, or $100 to support our fight to take back the White House.

So please, join John and me now in the fight to take back control of our government by saying three words that we all know George W. Bush will understand -- "bring it on!"
Wes Clark

P.S. I ask my neighbors in the four Southern states holding primaries today to send George W. Bush a strong message. Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas -- please vote!

on Edit: It's nice to get this kind of email. I hadn't gotten one from him before, so it was a pleasant surprise! I really appreciate, as a democrat, his "I will work with John and you to do everything..." line. THAT'S unity.

35. The truth is, Clark said a long time ago that he'd "work his ass off"
for the nominee no matter who it turned out to be. As I recall, Dean said pretty much the same thing.

So what are you going to say when Dean starts fundraising and campaigning for Kerry?

31. It's just "sour grapes." Dean isn't secure enough to be a gracious loser.
You can see which candidates have "character" and have healthy self esteem. It takes a "big" person to be able to support the person who beat you. This is what one should do when you're on the same "team."

Wesley Clark knows how to be a team member and is secure enough to be able to support a competitor who "bested" him.

It's juvenile behavior; as juvenile as this incessant pathetic crabbing and picking, when there are bigger, more important, absolutely crucial things to be thinking about right now. The country, indeed the world, is on the brink of disaster or hadn't you heard?

I think it was dean who did the pledge thing - was it in Iowa? Asked all candidates to join him in a pledge to support the nominee. I forgot, he is dean - no need to keep his word - he is bigger than that!

At the Iowa debate. Of course, Dean thought he had the nomination sewn up--all the media told him so. He was really just asking all the candidates to take a pledge to support him.

The primaries are over, Kerry is the man. Bush and his RW
evangelist, mysogenist band of thieves are wrecking our Democracy.

What's wrong with Wes trying to help Kerry out?

Your post has to be the most bizarre, bitter, sour grapes post I have read in a while. If Dean had won, I am sure Clark would be trying to help him out. It's called being a "team player".

If Wes Clark thinks Kerry is so great now, why didn't he just support him before?

Totally disingenuous.

it's freekin' plain as day.

1st, Clark wants to help the country out
2nd, Clark wants to help the dem party out
3rd, Clark wants to help himself out

It is weird to me that you think Clark helping Kerry raise money and spread the message is a bad thing.

What would you have him do? Endorse Dean? Act like a sourpuss? Admit he's really a Rebublican and endorse Bush :eyes:?

Frankly, I can't see any downside to what Clark is doing. But then again, I have no axe to grind.

Dean should get his ass in gear and start helping Kerry as well.

38. Yep, instead of giving a speech to Gannett
where he says "and that's why John Kerry will be the next President of the United States. Of course you know I wish I could say someone else was going to be the next president."

Always a "but" in there. Can't just accept defeat and help the cause. Some (definitely not all or even most) of his supporters here are doing the same thing. If you understood an ounce of Dean's primary message it was that Bush has to be thrown out of office. If you fail to support the only real chance we have of that, what does that say about your support for the message Dean was spreading anyways?

32. I understand
you just need some time to heal...and in this painful time in between the grief over your loss has you lashing out at others. It's ok. The frustration will fade, the pain will pass, and you'll be able to get on with your life. Till then, understand that what you are going through is a normal part of the process...many other people out there feel the same way, and they get better with time too.

21. You're right about one thing.
If Dean had won the nomination, Wes Clark would have encouraged us to support him in beating Bush.

Can you say the Dean would have done the same is Clark had won? No, I guess not, since he hasn't done so for Kerry. He's too busy keeping together "the Dean movement," to force Kerry to adopt DEAN's ideas into the party platform. Screw the voters who picked Kerry to go up against Bush.

Dean was always all about Dean. Which is one reason I'm glad he self-destructed, even if it blew Clark's campaign strategy out of the water.

27. I am willing to give Dean a lot more credit than that
I hope what Dean is up to is rallying his troops, getting them on board and fired up. There are other issues in addition to the Presidential race, and it is fine with me that people organize an ongoing movement to fight for them. What I am giving early credit to Dean about is that he also will make a strong pitch to his core supporters that one of the first tasks that must be accomplished is to get Bush out of office, and Kerry in. I fully expect that. I am not concerned that Dean has waited to make that strong pitch. It's only March. Makes sense to me that he wants to get his own house in order and strong. Dean will have more to offer Kerry if he does.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but only to a point.

Clark is raising money for Kerry NOW. Dean is missing a lot of opportunity, and thus a lot of potential donors. He was the one with "revolutionary" grassroots machine. How much "getting his own house in order" does he need?

Clark has campaign debt too, but you don't see him taking time away from the Kerry campaign to raise money for himself, or to go back into business to pay it off. You also have not seen him encouraging his supporters to keep voting for him. I know that in my state, the Dean activists are working hard to get Dean delegates.

37. Attention all Kerry-firsters!
I just had a thought... (mark your calendar!)

I'd like to ask any Kerry supporter who has maxed out his or her $2K contribution limit to consider donating to Wes Clark's campaign debt.

The link for contributions is: https://secure.clark04.com/
You can contribute on line, or download/print the form to mail it in. Any amount would be much appreciated.

Think of it as an investment for future Kerry contributions. The sooner Clark's debt is retired, the sooner we "Clarkies for Kerry" will feel able to start donating heavily to Senator Kerry.

Don't get me wrong--those of us who have maxed out on Clark are contributing to Kerry now, and most of the rest have contributed small amounts to show our support. But we will be more fully ready to get on with it when we close the financial books on Wes Clark's campaign. Help us out please!

We're all in this together.

Can you imagine the power and momemtum it would give to the Democratic party this year if every single candidate who ran for the nomination were to do this very thing. The thought is so inspiring, it's just awesome. Alas, I guess we can't be THAT united. Too bad.

39. Wes has more than impressed me
I always had him second on my list behind Kerry anyways but the way he has approached this unity in his post-primary experience I really admire the man. He may be a new Democrat but he's showing a lot of old ones and other new ones that came in with other primary campaigns how your candidate is supposed to act should he not win the nomination.

Just because you don't win doesn't mean you whine about it and take your ball and go home. There is still work to be done to achieve the ultimate goal that each and every one of these campaigns set out to achieve.

Defeating Bush.

9. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing that, mb. Much appreciate hearing from "the old man," even second-hand.

General Clark has indeed sent all of us e-mails asking us to support Senator Kerry, with money and time. For many, it was a deciding vote--not that ANY of us would consider not voting for Kerry in November. But it was hard to "get over" the loss of our own favorite candidate's chances, and a big step to move on to the bigger battle ahead. Without Wes Clark's leadership, many of us might still be floundering.

Clark has been raising skads of money for Kerry. If more of us among his supporters haven't contributed yet, it is because we're determined to retire Clark's campaign debt first. Once that's taken care of, you'll see a lot more coming from the Clark base. Even now, we're getting involved in augmenting the Kerry grassroots.

Regardless of whom Kerry picks as VP, it's obvious to me that Kerry and Clark are a great team, and I hope our two camps will prove to be as well.
