Seriously. This is the worst kind of political meme creation. If you are buying into this particular meme, please stop. It's highly offensive and it downplays just how harmful real cults are to millions of Americans and their families.

1. What do they care?
It is more important for them to feel good about the lack of inspiration coming of their candidate.

26. Oh is that it? They're tossing the CULT SURVIVORS under the bus? Get a fucking grip.
Just wait. I hope Obama wins so that I can watch all your heads explode when Obama takes this party two steps to the right further than Clinton did. You think the DLC's bad? Just wait.

3. I've had a neice who was a Rajneeshi
even lived in the town in Oregon for a while. Drifted out of it on her own. But I know what you mean. I've also been accused of being in a "cult" when I was initiated into Sufism-which can't be further from the truth (no allegiance to the leader of the order, no demands of money, open discussion and debate).

Get over it.

Until then, I think I know a little bit more about what a cult *really* is over this bullshit that the Clinton campaign is spewing right now.

It's offensive and I will continue to call it so.

13. The "obsessors" here are all on the 'Cult leader's' team, it seems.
Most of the "bullshit" threads on the subject aren't coming from the Clinton supporters. It's the Obama supporters from the "Cult of the Perpetually Aggrieved And Downtrodden" who are anxiously, angrily, and self-righteously keeping this idiotic "Cult" balloon in the air.

Your 'continuing to call it so' will permit you to reap just what you sow, oh Expert On Cults Who Knows SO Much More Than Anyone Else On The Subject! Throwing your "Fracking Family" into the debate does NOT move anyone, either. That "I'm affected by it, so everyone else shut the fuck up!!" argument NEVER works unless the world REALLY DOES revolve around you, and sorry, just in case you aren't clear on that--it does not.

PSST...here's a clue: Ya don't like it? Stop FEEDING it by starting threads like this one!

31. I'm honest.
I didn't say anything that wasn't the absolute truth. It's not the opponents to Obama starting thread after thread after thread doing the "Cult Denial" schtick, it's the supporters, who seem to revel in their victimization.

Like I've said elsewhere, that HIDE THREAD and IGNORE feature can prevent people from "having a cow" over any issue.

"""Your 'continuing to call it so' will permit you to reap just what you sow, oh Expert On Cults Who Knows SO Much More Than Anyone Else On The Subject! Throwing your "Fracking Family" into the debate does NOT move anyone, either. """

you are taking directly to someone who has been hurt terribly by a Real Cult. a personal person, here. and calling her family 'fracking' during this stressful time makes you a cold and cruel person. More likely she is much more an expert on Real Cults than you are - yet you demean her and her experiences, all for some possible political points you see in gaining by this viciousness.

34. SORRY. No SALE. That's called EXTORTION, when you try to say
"My feeeeeeelings will be HUUUUUUUURT if you talk about Suject X."

All they are trying to do is CENSOR people.

Fuck THAT. And the horse it rode in on.

This site has two wonderful features--they are called HIDE THREAD and IGNORE.

People who are angst-ridden, or whose FEEEEEEEELINGS get hurt by honest discussion need to USE those buttons, and stop trying to play the STFU card when the discussion turns to matters not of their liking.

Free speech is a cornerstone of our system of government. And if people don't care for the speech, there ARE ways to avoid bothering their pretty little heads about it.

And one more thing--it's IMPORTANT, so you LISTEN UP--the "fracking" reference that you so haughtily SCOLDED me about CAME FROM THE ORIGINAL POSTER. Try reading the entire "fracking" thread in CONTEXT before you start spanking people and making a self-righteous ASS of yourself.

The phrase was in quotes for a "fracking" reason.

12. If the GOP doesn't "pick up on" one attack, they'll use another.
That excuse doesn't fly.

If people don't want to keep talking about CULTS and how OFFENDED they are by the use of the word, they should do this:

STOP TALKING about CULTS and how OFFENDED they are by the use of the word.

This is the twentieth thread today on the subject!

I am amused as hell, because most of the threads are coming from the so-called cultists!

15. If the shoe does not fit, you really should not wear it. THAT's how you solve a problem.
And banning people for expressing an opinion, one that many are in concurrence with, would leave you with a, forgive the expression, "cultish" board that has forums named

    General Discussion--Obama

Editorials and Other Articles about OBAMA

Frugal Living--How to save Money to Buy Tickets to Go See OBAMA

General Discussion--Is Obama Great or THE GREATEST?

The place would get pretty boring, pretty quick. And the echo might get annoying over time.

For those who want criticism-free discussion of their beloved candidates, I think the candidates themselves offer PRAISE AND GLORY BE forums at their websites.

16. I disagree
calling fellow dems members of a cult is calling them names and against the rules. I don't care what anyone says about the candidates but calling poster cult members because of the Dem candidate they support is over the top. Disclaimer, I don't particularly care for either of the candidates.

18. "Cult" is not an insult, like asshole or jerk or Republican.
It describes an organizational structure that venerates a leader in a creepy fashion, but it is NOT an insult. And because it is not an insult, it isn't against the rules.

If we're going to play the game where we can't say anything that is an UNCOMFORTABLE opinion, we may as well close up shop and go home.

You're wanting to CENSOR people because YOU don't like what they say.

I have to say that the rallies and the chanting and the repetitive phrases, followed by the speeches where the venerated candidate talks DOWN at--yes, AT, not TO--his acolytes, who are shrieking, crying, trembling--desperate to touch the hem of his robe-- does have a cultish element to it.

It LOOKS like it to me. It's not quite THIS, but it just is too "adoring" for the real world:

21. It is an insult when
one smears half of the dem voting public as members of a cult. Everyone is looking for something in particular in a candidate and being as we only have these two left standing a choice is made. No Dem should be denigrated for their choice.

30. Look, if you go to the Catholic church, people assume you're a Catholic.
If you go to the temple, they assume you are a Jew. If you go to the masjid, they assume you are a Muslim. You don't HAVE to be--I've been in a variety of houses of worship without being a member, but I wouldn't be "insulted" if someone assumed I was.

For those who see 'cultish' aspects of the Obama campaign, attendance at those rallies, with the mindless, repetitive, chants, the speeches full of bullshit platitudes that say absolutely NOTHING, the shrieking, the screaming, the "rock star" audience reactions of hopping up and down like tweens at a Backstreet Boys concert, the streaming tears and the "OOOOOOH! I TOUCHED him!!" coupled with the inability of the vast majority of his 'fans' to answer any questions about his platform, makes one look askance--to put it politely.

And SAYING SO is not, like it or not, an insult. His rallies have a creepy, unspecific and mindless quality to them. A 'cultish' quality.

What you can do, if these comments hurt your feelings or cause you angst, is use some of the stress-relieving features that the DU administrators have provided us. That 'Hide Thread' one is great, and can brighten anyone's day! I notice that some Obama supporters have opted for IGNORE, and that works, too, if you don't want to see anything negative about your candidate.

But censoring people for their opinion just isn't acceptable, even if their opinion hurts your feelings.

19. It is based on 'cult of personality'
Which pretty much sums up what we are seeing

A cult of personality or personality cult arises when a country's leader uses mass media to create a heroic public image through unquestioning flattery and praise

A cult of personality is similar to general hero worship except that it is created specifically for political leaders.

Oh, and by the way, your making a strawman arguement.
