Here's the declaration:

The term Hillbot is fucking stupid and childish. Anyone using the term Hillbot is being fucking stupid and childish.

The term Obamite is fucking stupid and childish. Anyone using the term Obamite is being fucking stupid and childish.

Seriously. It's beyond embarrassing to keep seeing those terms thrown out here. Beyond embarrassing. The level of discourse around here is bad enough already just based on our own tones and playground bickering that we already do. Do we really need to throw around 3rd grader like terms of Hillbot and Obamite? I mean, it's beyond fucking stupid isn't it? I think I might have even used Obamite today in context to another post mentioning it (can't remember if I did or not) but it feels so fucking stupid to say and read it isn't even funny.

Those two terms are beyond stupid. Beyond stupid. I know there's no way we're going to bring more mature and civil discussion to GDP during this primary season and that would be ridiculous on my part to even hint at, but can we at least as a group, as a family, as adults, TRY and limit the use of such stupid fucking terms as Hillbot and Obamite? Really, if you use either, you're embarrassing yourself.

it's been interesting (and more than a little uncomfortable) as a longtime outside observer to see the steady increase in the coarseness of dialogue here.

the (admittedly well-placed) vitriol against bush descended into a lot of intellectually lazy namecalling (shrub, smirk, etc).

and then the ease with which people like lieberman were labeled "traitors" was another step down this path.

it should come as no surprise that many are now conditioned here to hurl the most base and hyperbolic insults at their fellow party members and candidates.

human nature being what it is, being tolerant and progressive is not achieved without self-discipline and reason.
