Such a strange, strange analysis from Kokie Roberts on NPR.
This morning, I heard Kokie Roberts discussing the Democratic primary results with particular emphasis on the the demographics that each candidate had won. She discussed that Hillary won the women, Hispanics, etc; Obama won the white men, youth, African-Americans, etc. And then it got weird: "The good news for Hillary Clinton is that her demographic is much more likely to vote. In the case of Obama, white men, for instance, tend not to vote." Huh? She's analyzing exit polls of states that just finished voting, and she's trying to suggest that some of those voters polled really don't vote or tend to be more diligent voters?

"Well, folks, just to put the Kentucky Derby in perspective for you -- although a palomino won this year, history tells us that the winner is a chestnut, so that's bad news for the palomino but great news for the horses finishing second and third, both of which are chestnuts."

Good lord. The silly season just keeps getting sillier.

1. In general elections women come out stronger than men, is what she was probably referring to.

3. she's right about the Democratic primary
Women constitute a large majority of the voters in Democratic primaries this year. Hillary's campaign is very much oriented to getting women to the polls, and that is why she has won the states she has won.

In some states, the female vote is right at 60% of the Democratic voters in the primary. Since she is strongest among women over 45, and since older voters tend to get out and vote much more than younger voters, it's accurate to conclude that Hillary's primary voters are more likely to vote than are Obama's typical voters.

6. She gave that analysis as she went -- women made up 57% of the Dem voters.

No argument there, but I don't understand here decision that this is "bad news for Obama" and "good news for Sen. Clinton" considering the votes have been cast and counted.

5. Maybe she was referring to the fact that more women
are registered Democrats than men. In the Republican party the opposite is true.

7. I don't believe that was the context, but I'll try to get the exact quote when it becomes available.
Kokie Roberts and I don't always agree on things, but this is the first time I felt her pronouncements were nonsensical.

8. Cokie Roberts is a Hillary shill
I watch her often on "This Week" and she is always in Hillary's camp. She never has a nice word about Obama. Even when Obama won Iowa she was still negative toward him. I stopped listening to her.

10. Sure. I've seen it, too. But Roberts wasn't talking about a rally.
She was talking about Hillary vs Obama in exit polls from the Super Tuesday primaries.

13. She was, but the context made no sense.
Her points might be well taken if we're projecting forward to the general election.

12. How the hell does she know all this
the morning right after the election?

Personaly I can't stand to listen to her, or most of NPR, any more. They're all about promoting themselves and showing how fucking smart they are.

14. Streaming audio now available on Roberts's analysis:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18737582

Her analysis is ever so slightly different than what I thought I was hearing, but it is still flawed. She prefaced her remarks with, "... looking forward to the primaries and caucuses that remain, ...". So, it's not as insane as it appeared. However, she paints this rosy picture for Hillary because all of her base votes, and this gloomy outlook for Obama because his constituents don't vote. It's still ridiculous because Obama essentially lost no ground to Hillary on Super Tuesday, and his momentum is all upward. He closed enormous gaps in a short time, won more states than anyone would have thought, and he is right there. I guess Kokie figures that Obama survived only through smoke and mirrors.
