1. The Republicans should be afraid
Kerry-Vilsack
Kerry-Edwards
Kerry-Cleland
Kerry-Kermit the Frog.

They all sound better than Bush-Cheney.

4. mywayorthehighway
there can be no future for democracy in a society where conservatism and religion are the clutches for

spiritual strength because fears and superstition have settled in the black hole meant for Rationally .

5. Democrats win in November.
Kerry may choose Vilsack.

If the GOP is afraid of that, what a shame.

8. If you read the article, it's pretty clear they express no fear
Apparently the poster of this thread believes that right-wingers critisizing/bashing/exposing democrats means that they're afraid of them. Yeah right. If that were true a Ted Kennedy/Hillary Clinton ticket would be their worst fear.

14. It's porch-talk, bombtrack. For our side.
We're for a successful ticket and a little good vibe never hurt.

6. Ever since Graham abandoned his pres. run, GOP pollsters have been
telling the whitehouse that they can't hold Florida if a strong democratic nominee choses Graham as his vp(the possible nominees used as examples back then were Kerry, Edwards, or Lieberman.

Oly Florida represents 27 red electoral votes, while Vilsack represents 7 blue ones.

Easy choice for me. And although nobody here descriminates against this kind of thing I hope, VilSACKs name wouldn't be a big help either, nationally.

7. Vilsack would help us hold swing blue states, while helping pick up
states like Ohio and West Virginia. We could do well in the rust belt, and even in rural areas with someone like Vilsack.

10. There's no evidence of broad appeal of Vilsack to any other state or demos
Other than people in his own state. Probably 2 percent of non-democrat voters in those states have ever heard of Vilsack. This article makes it clear that he would provide plenty of ammo to the republicans if he were chosen.

9. A Kerry/Vilsack ticket would be quite strong
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 06:43 PM by mndemocrat_29
And would help us a lot in the Midwest (hopefully strengthening Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois, while helping to deliver Missouri, Ohio, and West Virginia). While Kerry/Landrieu is my fave ticket, I would be very happy with this pairing.

Interesting thing about Vilsack. If he were elected VP, he'd be the first Vice President to not have served in the U.S. Congress since Nelson Rockefeller and the first elected V.P. not to serve in Congress since Agnew.

11. Probably 2 percent of non Iowan, non news junkies have ever heard of Tom
Vilsack. There is no real evidence of Midwestern attraction to these people like Gephardt, much less Vilsack anymore. The country is too homogenized these days to have somebody who happened to govern a state 300 miles away to help you signifigantly in Ohio.

You're choice, Landrieu actually isn't a bad choice, she'd probably be my second. Kerry couldn't win Louisiana unless Bush tanks, but she clearly has a chance at helping demographics, namely women.

Nominees mainly help in refecting on the nominee with Geography, ideology, and demogrophy. Landrieu helps somewhat in all 3.

Although I would be somewhat hesitant to have 2 catholics on the ticket.

15. Ok, maybe I'm a little slow here but...
Why would the thugs be afraid of a Gov that is jacking up tax rates all over the place? Don't misunderstand me...I'm all for tax hikes but why would rethugs not embrace a VP that does it to bolster their no-tax message?

18. WRONG!
Don't trust Nat'l Review. Besides, although we know and love Vilsack, the Party does not have the time, energy or MONEY to introduce someone new to the sleeping general electorate.

Better to go with the known, the tested, the already proven crowd and vote getter, the guy with broad appeal who can remedy Kerry's lack of charisma.
