Total greatness!

If that "Commie Dean" sign is real- ouch. Our country is really in trouble when the media decides the elections. Canada is looking mighty good.

40. That sign is real..
it's a promo for a movie about what went on behind the scenes of the Dean campaign. As far as the communism thing goes, what if this promo was made by the Dean people? I wouldn't sweat it. It almost looks like an ESPN Classic promo.

So I guess supporters of a centrist who was governor of Vermont for 11 years are a communist-cult.

13. Back then I think we were better informed
There were real journalists like Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite on television.

But people back then really got their news from newspapers. There were a lot more of them in those days and while the quality varied quite a bit there were some truly excellent ones out there like the NYT and WP, both now descended into whoredom.

And out on the fringe, a few iconoclasts like Izzy Stone keeping them honest.

At least that is my impression. I like Trippi fine, but there are two sides to stories. I am afraid only one will be told.

I hope they are fairly decent, but I doubt it. I did hear she was sympathetic to the campaign more than most.

I guess I just the press has had a lot of fun with our candiidates, all of them. I wish I could be a fly on the wall at the Gridiron dinner. I understand Dean will be there, but he is only speaking at the luncheon. I will bet he will have to do a lot of laughing at himself. He does that pretty well, now.

39. That reminds me of an old saying
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice.

In practice, there is.

Communism, as a theory, is a natural outgrowth of classical socialist theory, which is itself an natural outgrowth of such wide-eyed radical philosophies as, say, the teachings of Christ.

Communism, as seen in practice, is just another means for the powerful to control and oppress the powerless, just like divine right, fascism and any other totalitarian system.

25. What did Helen Thomas say about daggers in the back...
It seems like the media not only drove them in, now they get some perverse enjoyment out of twisting them.

I'd like to be able to say I find this bit of graphic design license shocking, but I can't, but I do find it repulsive. Whoever is responsible for the design of this logo/banner for the Dean documentary should have been told, this is not acceptable. CNN is a huge concern, somebody in the graphics dept. dropped the ball going up the chain to the point it was approved and aired several times this week advertising the documentary to be aired on Sunday. I caught it the very first time I saw it. It almost seemed to be subliminal at first, but the message it was trying to convey was clear.

This is disgusting. Howard Dean redefined the Democratic Party, after the disaster that was 2002, and I for one am so grateful (Daschle? Please.) I am glad Kerry is the nominee, but this kind of trash is offensive to all good progressives. Here's one we can agree on. I have no doubt Howard Dean will rise above this. He is too tough not to.

:tinfoilhat:

Come on, it's red white and blue! Lots of people don't even know anything about red stars...and they're usually gold anyways on communist flags! There's a lot better things to criticize the media for that are more materially obvious, like the imbalance of pro/anti war views last year that are documented and quantified.

36. I was never a Dean supporter
But I saw a snippet from this show the other day on Wolf's show and I was disappointed (in CNN). It showed staffers shooting what looked like water guns or silly string or something like that in the office. I know these people were working hard coming up with the web site and all that and I understand the importance of being loose in these situations but my impression was that CNN was trying to show these people as political neophytes with no discipline. I hope that's not what the gist of the show is. These Dean staffers worked hard and did a good job of getting their message out.

I hope this isn't a hatchet job on the Dean campaign.

49. Well he's not dead yet!
He still has potential to do great harm to the status quo. Do you think they will leave him unencumbered to just go and achieve this?

He and his supporters (or any like minded souls) absolutely must be discredited immediately. It is the only way. There's alway the "plan crash" one but that one has to be used with some discretion. Too great a frequency would be too obvious for the masses to ignore.
