Why I Love Obama
* Because in my considered judgment, having a president named "Obama" would be enfranchising.
* Because he's young and like the Baby Boomers, my generation simply doesn't like our nation's continued slide toward ruin. Youth voting is inspiring.
* Because he thinks the progressive fights of the 1960s and 1990s are still worth fighting.
* Because his alleged faux pas are all admirable, like Dean's "faux pas".
* Because, unlike Clinton, he inspires new and independant voters.
* Because he's risen above the Clinton campaign's attempt to paint him as a racial candidate.
* Because the media repeatedly tells me that, despite his unpartisan policies, he's "polarizing".
* Because his campaign is focused on energizing all-important Independents and repentant Republicans (in case there are any).
* Because the Democrats have a chance to win and need to choose the strongest candidate, despite close (and clouded) vote counts in 2000 and 2004, and a massive win in 2006.
* Because he spoke out against the war before it began.
* Because he's shown us that believing in "hope" and "change" isn't just wishful thinking.
* Because it would be inspiring to have a black president (even to our enemies, who would be instantly disarmed by it!).
* Because he is tearing down the assumption that religious voters don't care about progressive ideas on fighting poverty and injustice.
* Because like a King, he'll lead us further along the path to the Promised Land.

Nailed my problem with him.

3. The Office of The President of The United States
is the office of a public servant.

Not a "King"

5. It was in reference to MLK.
But I can see how you'd assume this supporter of a progressive black candidate actually wants to redeclare our dependance on Britain and return to a monarchy.

8. I didn't realize Obama was a progressive
and I didn't realize MLK was ever our President.

13. You only highlight your ignorance of the struggles of blacks
during the 60's. I will cease to feed your baiting and negativity.

"a King"

Here is a picture of a King.

Here is a picture of a President

You didn't say like Martin Luther King Jr.

What the hell was I supposed to think?

15. Here.
New Hampshire Obama concession speech...

"It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this world. Yes we can."

I like subtly referencing deeply inspired oratory to illustrate my points.

being smarmy as you.

It is close though.

6. However, if the crown is passed from Bill to Hillary,
that will be a dynastic ironic truth.

That's what bitter folks without hope do.

Your post is excellent!

Like Obama states, the skeptics will slice and dice you.

That's all that MaddieJoan's post represents.

10. Don't you DARE
try and frame my posts.

I see hope and optimism in a Hillary Clinton Presidency --precisely because I am confident she can get the job done.

Don't flame me because your candidate fails to inspire me.

9. I basically agree with everything except the last one. I think the last one
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 02:24 PM by Mass
is exactly the opposite of what Obama stands for. He is before all an organizer, allowing us to do what we need to do so that our dreams possible. He is not a King (except if you mean as MLK). He is creating a movement where people will take power, not a kingdom.

On edit: I saw your answer to maddiejoan, but it can be misconstrued and some people will use it to make believe that Obama supporters look for a rock star.

12. Obama is a Radical Christian, Pass it On.
I hear Obama is a Radical Christian who believes in putting the Sermon on the Mount into practice, and who does not pay proper respect to self-righteous Pharisees. Pass it on.

19. I like him because he's bringing in a ton of new Democrat voters
And I think it helps so much in the Congress races too. No one else in this party has energized Democrats like this other than Howard D. He's done so much for the party.

It pisses me off that people try to tear a guy down who is doing this.
