Krugman in NYT: "My Evil Ways" (answering Team Obama)
January 30, 2008, 9:21 pm
My evil ways

Hmm. A little while back I learned from various sources that the reason I criticize Barack Obama is that my son works for Hillary. This was news to me, since I wasn’t aware that I have any children.

Now I learn that it’s important that I disclose that I was Bill Clinton’s chief economic adviser in 1992. This is also news to me, since I wasn’t aware that I worked for the campaign at all.

In fact, shortly after Bill C. was nominated I sort of auditioned — there was a gathering in Little Rock of more or less liberal economists, including the late Jim Tobin, Larry Summers, Laura Tyson, Alan Blinder, and yours truly. And I failed the test: I disagreed with the candidate about deindustrialization, and never heard from the campaign again.

I was, by the way, lucky. I’m temperamentally unsuited to public office, and it would have been a great disaster had I been offered a job.

1. Obama campaign caught lying about columnist who disagrees with them.
Bill, Bill, you should have listened to Krugman about deindustrialization. You were wrong, he was right, and Hillary is having to answer for it. Bad Bill.

14. Why? Technology was and is the name of the game. We would
be left way behind if we had not emphasized technology. Problem is, industry did not want to modernize, environmentalize so they sold us out for less greener pastures.

17. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the Clinton campaign.
Since they can't win on the issues, they have to pull one political stunt after another.

15. haven't heard any hate for Krugman. Some of us disagree with his political takes from time to time
a lot of DU'ers have no idea he essentially says outsourcing is a good thing.

5. "My Diva Ways" is more like it
Your approval is not that important to us, Paul, and, if you haven't noticed, your never-ending series of anti-Obama screeds has had zero impact on the race.

6. Ain't that the truth, though?
Krugman's "never-ending series of anti-Obama screeds has had zero impact on the race."

And in 2000 and 2004, his never-ending series of anti-Bush screeds had zero impact on the race. His never-ending series of anti-Iraq War screeds didn't have an impact. No one listened to his warnings about the subprime mortgage situation, back when Bush was praising the robust housing market.

It's too bad more people don't listen to Krugman.

You are arrogant!
Obama mentioning Reagan, the way he did had a tremendous impact ... and NOT in a good way!

8. Typicel Obama tactics...if you don't like the message or can't take the criticism
then slam the messenger because there's no way our god can be wrong about anything!

That must be great Kool-aid. They should bottle it so we can all think Obama actually talks about issues.

11. tactics
I've noticed an unfortunate tendency in the Obama campaign - if someone criticizes one of your positions, your criticize them PERSONALLY. This tactic may prove greatly destructive should Hillary win the nomination, because Obama isn't just trying to win he's trying to turn people against her.

23. Wow. Krugman's comment Re: Clinton and deindustrialization ...
... makes me wonder how Clinton went from "reindustrialization" to support for NAFTA, the nail in the coffin of American manufacturing.
