2. Illinois primary is March 16.
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 11:32 PM by greatauntoftriplets
I will vote for Dennis Kucinich. And I object to those here tonight who have told me to get over it. Thank you.

On edit: I don't like being told that my vote 14 days from now is unimportant. I have voted in every damned election since 1972. And will continue to vote my conscience.

4. NOW is the time for Kerry to show real leadership.
He has the spotlight. He needs to tell the truth- none of this "broader coalition" garbage. The people see through it.

If he wants to win, he needs to grow a pair, and quickly.

5. Don't Bet On It
Kerry will waffle and accommodate even more. He'll give a marvelous concession speech in November - it will soar to new heights in generosity!

I'm so glad you put the word "um" in front of your post. That lets me know you gave some thought to what you were saying.

You'll be SO impressed by Kerry's concession speech. He'll make us all proud to be American as he congratulates Bush for a hard-fought contest.

27. I agree a Bush enabler for the past three years,
And a corporate enabler all over the world since he voted for NAFTA, followed by all those other terrible trade agreements.

Very disappointing. I used to admire him. Now I will probably vomit when I have to vote for him.

That should have been a choice, Will.

24. Sprinter Now Faces a Marathon - NYT Wednesday
(snip)

Propelled by the twin tides of electability and inevitability since his upset victory in the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 19, Mr. Kerry now stands atop a Democratic Party that is energized and unified in its opposition to President Bush, who is no better than tied with or trailing Mr. Kerry in the latest polls. The process devised by Democratic officials to produce an early nominee has worked as intended.

But the real test is just beginning.

Tomorrow, the Bush campaign will begin spending the first of its tens of millions of dollars on campaign advertising aimed at shaping the race: first celebrating Mr. Bush, then reintroducing Mr. Kerry, the Massachusetts senator, to the nation in the most unflattering light possible. Mr. Kerry has been tested, but perhaps not as much as he would have been in a longer primary season. His appeal to independents and Republicans remains largely unproved. And he now faces an eight-month general election campaign against a president with all the powers of incumbency at his command.

13. I will support the nominee of the Democratic Party
and It looks like Kerry is our man.
Fortunately, I liked all the candidates so I am not disappointed.

We have some fine people willing to step up to the plate and lead our party to the White House. Any one of the candidates would have been an excellent choice.

We still have some primaries and a Convention, but I think tonight pretty much sealed it for Kerry.

I would have preferred the race lasted longer, so the BFEE didn't have a clear target. The Neo-cons have a war chest and they are not going to be afraid to use it. Kerry needs all of us to rally around him and support him no matter what the bad guys try to do to him.

22. Could we Edwards supporters have the same consideration
shown to/requested by supporters of other candidates, i.e., could you please allow a little time for us to adjust to the sad events of tonight before asking us to heartily support Kerry?

I realize that some people are happy to do so at this time, but I think it would be gracious to allow the same time others such as the Clark supporters needed. We need the same.

Yeah Will, I'm gonna support the Kerrmeister, the K-Dude, of course!

It's not so much grudgingly, as it is necessary.

And there is no way to avoid the 'Bush must be defeated. All other considerations are secondary' option, as the last 72 hours have shown, in Haiti, Iraq, Wall street, My Street, Your Street....

I guess our 'Brief Shining Moments' will have to demure, unless the good Senator would like to take it to the next level. And I'd be all fer that!!!

But yes, Will, John Kerry is my candidate, too. :toast:

45. Not grudgingly, not enthusiastically. But "yes". But with acceptance
I yield to the higher power that is democracy and the process that is compromise. The people have spoken, and although the people are deluded fools, they get it right more often as not. Arguably they get it right more often than me personally. Just as I once thought Cyndi Lauper would take off big and Madonna was a one hit wonder, I accept that I'm not always on the smart side of history. If the country were drowning, I'd happily drag my ass on board the SS Kerry. I don't think we're as desperate as that, but he's still the only boat left.

Is it too late to start a "redraft Clark" movement?

55. I'm in your boat Bucky.
And yes it is unfortunately too late to redraft Clark. Our guy adjusted to prevailing reality a lot quicker than most of us. Clark could have been a player a lot longer but ultimately he still would have been a losing player, so he moved to have the healing start sooner rather than later. Despite all the glowing accounts being written about him, Edwards turned out to regional candidate. After Iowa (where Clark wasn't running) and except for Wisconsin (where Clark wasn't running) Edwards got pretty much trounced everywhere outside the South. I think Wes could have given Kerry a better run for the money but he wasn't in this for himself.
