HIllary President means Goodbye Howard Dean
If Hillary is elected President she will by default become the leader of the Democratic Party. And with that power she will eject Howard Dean for "more favorable" leadership.

Even as she rides HIS coattails to the Presidency ... to her it's only because people love her and nothing else. Regardless, of the 2004 and 2006 efforts by Dean and MoveOn that paved the way for a Democratic Party revival and her success.

It's all about Hillary. Just like Lieberman.
:nuke:

She will reform the party back into the old structure that got it defeated so many times before. It's the triangulation ya'know. You don't need 50 states to win, so why campaign there.

7. I took it to mean that Dean has a 50 state strategy, where the Clintons/DLC
like to write off all but a few counties in a few states.

Hillary would reverse Dean's work towards 50 states.

Every post I have read today from the individual to whom I responded has been filled with either complete hatred for Democrats, or denial over the wrong-doings of the BushClintons, or both.

And seriously, it's too late to whine about the primaries that were messed up by the DLC.

At least the Whore Media didn't strangle your candidate.

Maybe you should reflect on the name of the party you say you defend so much and why it was called that way.
Dean is not the party. he is the chairman - who did some terrific things and some dumb things recently.

And I've never called him a saint, nor do I believe he ever claimed to be one. Besides, Chairman Doctor Governor Saint Dean would just be a little much for anyone to fit on their nametag.

26. My worthless primary? Wow! Not much with the democracy you....I have a primary in my state
which doesn't make me feel good for democrats from Michigan and Florida. Or Nevada either. Cutting cards for ties? Like Nader saying in 2000: toss a coin. But then again, you sound like him. And a 2004 deanie too.
FYI - I support Gravel - . Also democracy, right to vote - and I don't think primaries are worthless - just deeply flawed.
I had liked what Dean did - until this primary - now I am angry.
No party rules can trump a constitutional right. he should find other ways to deal with whatever.

21. Mess? Rules are necessary in political organizations involving millions of people.
In your little world, maybe you can go around making exceptions to the rules on really important things. But if you do that with kids, you end up with brats.

Do that with political organizations and you get anarchy.

30. Maybe so. But they should be enforced differently than by depriving voters
of their constitutional rights. Voters had no control over the local party decision - in fact I think the local party didn't have it either (GOP state legislature?).

55. LOL You are mistaken my friend
You do not, nor did you ever, have any "Constitutional right" to vote in the party primary. The party can select it's nominee in any fashion it desires. They could hold a bake-off if they wanted to.

Having said that, of course it is troubling whenever some people get excluded from the process. I wish there was some other solution to this issue, but frankly I don't see one. States CANNOT be allowed to simply hold a primary whenever they want to, it would result in utter chaos. How would you prefer to see the DNC enforce this?

You are also incorrect in thinking the state Democratic Party had no say in this. While the legislature is Rep. controlled, the Dems there were active participants and cheerleaders in moving the primary up to a date they KNEW was in direct violation of the national party rules, and in fact they all voted in unison with the Reps to do so. After having done that they were offered numerous solutions to the problem by the DNC, including offers of cash assistance to hold later primaries or caucuses which would comply, and the delegates would be seated as any others.

They refused. They insisted that Florida's primary be held on the 29th of January, regardless of any violations or possible repercussions. It is nothing more or less than an attempted power grab which only splinters the Democratic Party more than it already is.

Since then the state party has been engaged in a turfing campaign, trying to portray themselves as victims of the Rep legislature and more pointedly, Howard Dean. It's absolute nonsense to anyone who knows the facts but, sadly, few bother to learn them. Don't fall for it.

Vermont and is still very much a Vermonter. We don't much like to confused with NH; we're very different. And Sununu is up for re-election this year. Former Governor Shaheen is running against him. In Vermont, Bernie and Pat have their seats as long as they want them. Pat's up for re-election in 2010 and he'll be running.

Yes, we will go back to a time when sections of the party atrophied from neglect, where we concede whole portions of the country as not viable for the party.

From what I hear, that's what happened in the Clinton years. They were good at getting themselves elected, but not so good at bringing everyone else with.

If we have a Democratic President (as I'm sure we will) he or she will have a big say in who the Chair is. (The DNC still gets to actually decide.)

If we lose, he deserves to be out.

In any case, the top 3 candidates have all endorsed the 50-state strategy, in writing. I hope the State Chairs hold the winner to his/her word!

51. I would say so. There's no love lost there. Too bad, the Democrats were just starting to win.
Whatever you want to say about Howard Dean, his arrival as DNC chair has coincided with a rise in the fortunes of the Democratic party. Despite the howls of anguish from DC Dems his 50 state strategy actually worked and put the Democrats in the majority in both houses--an election day shocker for sure.

I doubt though, he'll survive the Clinton nomination, much less her becoming President and that's just too bad.

The Clintons could end up splitting the party and that would be a disaster.

53. How stupid.
Obama will fire Dean. David Axelrod's best friend is Rahm Emanuel. David worked under contract for the DCCC (Rahm) in the run up to the 2006 elections. Every one surely remembers the open warfare between Rahm and Dean regarding allocation of DNC funds during the runup to the mid-terms in 2006.

Most think Rahm supports Hillary - he does not. She wanted him fired from the W.H. because she did not like him. Rahm, Obama and David's association goes back more than a decade and they forged their relationship in Chicago smash mouth politics.

Obama will fire Dean - Rahm will pick the replacement.
