1. By far an asset. The fact that he rankles Obama is like icing on the cake.

3. If he wasn't an asset, there wouldn't be an uproar.

5. Asset to Hillary's campaign, liability to the party as a whole.

9. I disagree.
Once there is a nominee, there will be few people with a better ability to fundraise and campaign for Democrats than Bill Clinton.

12. That will be under different circumstances. In fact, I would say that at the moment,
he is harming his later credibility.

14. If Ken Starr couldn't do it with $70 million...
I doubt that this campaign is any threat to his credibility.

16. Democrats easily shrug off attacks from Republicans.
Democrats do not appreciate gutter politics against other Democrats, especially from former Presidents.

19. Welcome to politics.

The tone of this year's primary campaign is nothing new. Many of the same discussions going on right now are very similar to the Jackson/Mondale race for the nomination in '84.

In '04, the candidates were brutal with each other, as were their supporters. The Dean/Clark wars were legendary on DU.

Nothing new. Same tone, different players.

20. And in politics, actions and elections have lasting consequences.
The mere fact that brutality is expected does not mean that it is without its liabilities.

22. Brutality? Oh, please.
This place has turned into a hyperbolic wonderland.

23. Welcome to politics.
Since virtually every term we use is only used analogously, every adjective used is a matter of artistic license.

25. Everything is, of course, relative in politics.
Supporting a candidate also tends to make one rather narrow-sighted and less likely to see behavior in one's own candidate as similar - or identical - to behavior in one's opponents. This place takes that to levels I didn't know were possible.

Everything directed toward one's candidate is an "attack" and/or a "lie".

Everything directed at an opponent is a "concern" and/or a "fact". :)

4. The key to victory in November is in getting
all the Democratic votes PLUS the votes of independents (and maybe even some disgruntled Republicans). The problem, as I see it, is that more and more people are distrustful of government as it has been--and are looking for new plans and new ideas. What we are seeing with the Clintons is an emphasis on personality much more than on issues. Why does Mr. Clinton lambaste Mr. Obama instead of reminding people that, under his administration, we had a balanced budget? Why isn't he reminding folks that, under his watch, World Trade Center terrorists were found, tried, and convicted, and that there were no more attacks on US soil after that? These would send strong, positive messages to the general public.

at least in SC.

13. Liability.
He should follow the lead of his best buddy Poppy Bush. Poppy didn't try to dominate Dumbass's campaign. If he had, the moron's incompetence would have been more obvious. Bill isn't doing Hillary any favors, he's just pissing off Democrats, some of whom might have voted for Hillary otherwise. Even though I don't count myself in that category.

15. Poppy didn't try to dominate Bush's campaign because they disagreed about pretty much everything.

So Poppy just had his pals handle it instead.

18. Wait just a cotton-pickin' minute ...
First, I read from Obama's DU surrogates that Bill Clinton is a life-long liar.

Then, I read the same folks lamenting that he's ruining his credibility by campaigning for his wife.

Which is it?
