Two polls confirm 10 point Clinton drop in SC after debates
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 01:27 PM by grantcart
Rueters/CSPAN 1/22 shows Clinton at 25 and PPP 1/21 shows Clinton at 28 (previous highs in January 38-39 various polls)

The six latest polls show that Obama's spread has grown from 6-10 points before the debates to 16-17 points after.

The most interesting statistic which can be seen at the link below shows that Obama's numbers have not changed at all staying with in the MOE since the begining of the month.

The gain in spread now confirmed by different polls both show that Hillary has dropped significantly.

Who has gained? Undecided's have gone from single digits to 14%

See all the polls here http://www.pollster.com/08-SC-Dem-Pres-Primary.php

1. Here is the link for "ALL" the polls
http://www.pollster.com/08presidentialprimary.php

It shows all of the primary races summed and plotted over time.

NOBODY should plan on taking any time off or doing a victory lap!

3. I'm leery of all polls after New Hampshire
I want to get some money to start a non-profit that independently verifies polling data. I want to call people who just got polled to find out if they actually got polled and if what they said aligns with what was reported.

30. Yup. How many women in their sample? Did they ask GOP-ers?
I notice some did - in Dem primaries!

4. thanks--the graph makes it more clear
I didn't understand the terminology in your post, though. But that's just me.

I, for one, was really, really turned off by Hillary's mean and sour expressions during that debate. And that's enough to make some people turn away from her, IMO.

There are a lot of people, like my daughter-in-law for example, watching casually and not listening to every word. People interested to become familiar with the candidates, but distracted by the baby, kids, or other people in the room. So then they see this sour, frowning face--and think, Wow.

Obama kept his dignity, as did Edwards, but Hillary showed an ugly side of herself--very ugly.

5. Nastiness backfired in Iowa. It will backfire in SC. If she keeps it up,
it will backfire on Super Tuesday.

14. "Nastiness" had nothing to do with it. HC was not "nasty" in the debate.
It just a simple black/white issue but nothing is over until all the votes are counted. I just don't believe that all blacks will support Obama. He actually shares little of their backgrounds. I don't believe that Obama was ever really "poor" and discriminated against like southern blacks. I could be wrong but I don't believe it.

33. Yes, she was nasty.
She interrupted him while he was merely trying to defend himself. She went after him much more than Edwards, because she knows he is a threat. He had to spend his time defending himself against her distortions.

We here in the Mid-West just don't like rude and nasty people. And people who twist quotes and lie about others, especially about those in their own political party! It smacks of ambition at the expense of every other consideration.

Hillary's core supporters will find a way to excuse it, but the rest of the people won't.

9. If the trends continue and Edwards takes the undecided that is what will happen
she will do what she did after Iowa and just say it wasn't a very important place after all.

10. If SC were the prize that might be problematic. And who knows - it might
be problematic elsewhere too. But the thinking I've seen seems to be that HRC wasn't debating for SC.

13. That's because her internals were showing that Obama's numbers were
solid and heres soft - of course I am guessing.

The reason that South Carolina will have such an unusual impact this time is that it is the last contested primary before Super Tuesday.

Matter of fact, I think Obama was suckered into making that Walmart remark which allowed Hillary to bring up Rezko.

And gee, next day Michelle Obama resigned from that major Walmart vendor. Fancy that !

12. Is that why she left South Carolina yesterday?
Olbermann said last night she might be abandoning South Carolina, conceding the state to Obama, to concentrate on Super Tuesday states.

Or as Barney sez - Super Dee Duper States!

36. caution--doing that is creating a hot link
it's probably fine from a commercial site with plenty of bandwidth--but don't do it to a small site--because you are using their bandwidth, no?

The "proper" way is to cut and paste it into a site of your own such as Photobucket. Then post a link to that.

23. OP shows how you lie using statistics
That was the 1st Reuters/CSPAN/ZOGBY poll so we have nothing to compare it with.

The PPP (d) poll in mid Jan had Hillary at 31 and Obama at 44 (Obama has remained at 44).

That's a 3 pt drop.
