(ALBANY, New York) -- With New York's primary just a day away, John Kerry continues to sport big leads over John Edwards, his chief rival for the presidential nomination.

Two independent statewide polls released Monday show Kerry way ahead of Edwards among Democrats likely to vote in Tuesday's primary.

A poll from Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion has Kerry leading his Senate colleague 69 percent to 15 percent

KERRY CONTINUES TO OUTPACE RIVALS AMONG NEW YORK STATE DEMOCRATS:
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry has an imposing lead among likely Democratic voters for tomorrow’s presidential primary in New York. Kerry receives the support of 69% of likely New York State Democratic primary voters followed by 15% for North Carolina Senator John Edwards, 5% for Reverend Al Sharpton, and 2% for Dennis Kucinich. 9% are undecided.

MANY MINDS MADE UP:
62% of likely New York State Democratic primary voters are strongly committed to a candidate for their party’s nomination for president. 24% currently say they somewhat support their choice, and 12% indicate they might vote differently on primary day. 64% of Kerry’s support is firmly committed to him. This is 44% of the total likely Democratic primary electorate which compares with the 40% he had in a poll with one week to go.

Kerry holds 3-1 lead among New York Democrats, Quinnipiac University Poll finds; few Kerry voters likely to change their minds

One day before the New York State primary, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry holds a 63 – 21 percent lead over North Carolina Sen. John Edwards among likely Democratic primary voters, including undecided voters who are leaning toward a specific candidate, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Rev. Al Sharpton has 5 percent, with 3 percent for Dennis Kucinich.

In a February 25 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University, Kerry held a 60 – 21 percent lead over Edwards.

Their mind is made up, 73 percent of Kerry voters and 54 percent of Edwards voters say. But 46 percent of Edwards voters say they might change their mind.

From February 24 – 29, Quinnipiac University surveyed 504 New York State likely Democratic primary voters, with a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percent.
