Nelson, and others who robbed from the "rich" banks, etc and the Rich were afraid. Today the Rich has heroes such as Exxon, Texaco, Shell, BP, CitiCorp, BofA, etc who robbed from the poor and give to the Rich and the poor are afraid.

1. As things really go to hell, the same thing will happen
By the 30s, people had had it with banks. Banks had been foreclosing on family farms of many generations and houses of many generations and were not the nation's favorite institutions by any stretch of the imagination. Runs on the banks had convinced people their deposits had been stolen. Any thug who came along and got something out of a bloodsucking bank turned into a hero.

This time, it might be oil companies. Heating oil and gasoline trucks will be hijacked and the contents distributed to anybody who shows up with a Jerry can.
