At some time, Edwards must win a primary.
I'm a realist. I'm also an Edwards supporter. If he cannot win in SC or NV, it is difficult to imagine where he might win. I am not ready to go down with the ship. I think there will come a time that we may need to re-evaluate our position. As of today, Edwards is still in the race.

1. Not really. If the wins are split between HIllary and Barack,
and John keeps taking 2nds and decent 3rds, with more than 15% of the vote, he can stay in and broker the convention. THAT would get very interesting. He most likely wouldn't get the nomination, but he would be in a position of strength to cut deals to get a cabinet position, etc. and then throw his weight behind one of the other two candidates.

And, of course, there's the possibility that he wins at a brokered convention as a darkhorse candidate (or better yet, we get a candidate like Al Gore nominated in such a scenario.)

3. right, but it's just as likely that he'll start losing critical support
if he doesn't win or take a second in NV or SC. Most people aren't the die-hard supporters that DUers are, and don't think strategically. His support could easily dip to below 15% in the critical 2/5 states like CA, IL, NY, CT, MA, GA, AL, MA. And the odds of Gore being nominated at a brokered convention are infinitesimally small.

6. Most people, unlike DUers, don't have strong feelings against any candidate
If they support Edwards they will not abandon him to "stop" Hillary or Obama.

9. no, but the'll abandon him because they don't believe he can win
and switch to a second choice. It's not about stopping anyone. It's about people deciding their first choice isn't viable.

10. What is the point? Obama and Hillary are too similar to arouse a passionate desire for #2 to win

12. You're projecting your opinion on to millions of others
I doubt most voters see it that way.

11. I would love it if we had a brokered convention...
And my pie-in-the-sky wish is for Gore to be nominated. imo our final three are good candidates, not great ones ~ and I don't trust any of them completely.

14. and all the candidates who worked their asses off
for the nomination are going to just give Gore their enthusiastic support when he waltzes in and expects to be coroneted without lifting a finger. Gore has no financial backing, no organization, no nothing. He is a crappy campaigner based on all his previous presidential bids. If there is a brokered convention then the candidate should be Clinton or Obama or Edwards if he wins some primaries. One of those people will have earned the nomination and earned the respect and support of their rivals.

15. You forgot one critical fact - Gore was already elected...
If you're worried about people working their asses off, and then not getting what they deserve, Gore's that person.

But for me the most important fact is that I trust him to deal with the most pressing issue of our time: global warming.

I also trust him in general, more than I do any of the others.

2. Today will tell a lot. Just a short week ago the polls had him
neck and neck in Nevada - then a mysterious drop. No one
really knows what will happen today. Keep your fingers
crossed.

In my opinion, both Edwards and Obama need to stay in
until Denver. They need each other to amass enough
delegate to prevent Hillary from winning on the first
ballot. Probably, IMHO, the only hope for either of
them considering the Clinton political machine and
superdelegate count.

4. it isn't realistic to think he can win in NC an SC, bastions of Right wing Xing fundamentalists, any...
more than a democratic, anti-theocracy, womens rights candidate could win in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia just because they were born there.. and that is the level if intolerance we are talking about in the south, people are really brainwashed down here...

the flying monkey's down here are brain washed into believing that they can stare into someones eyes and tell if Jesus runs their lives or Satan.. the MFer's do it all the time.. especially when i lived in rural TN. this is really insidious.. because it terrorizes people into thinking their friends, neighbors can see if they have Evil Satanic "Liberal" thoughts....

Edwards is being deionized ans "Disappeared" in the Reich Wing Corporate Media because he campaigns on financing universal health care by repealing the Tax cuts for the richest 4%.. yes folks that will pay for it.. this man has a plan, not just scripted Charisma pie in the sky sermons.. a plan.

Does not "win one" soon
He should stay in!
Let Obama and Hillary Earn it!

Plus make them Commit to more (progressive) Issues
and many here (who support Edwards) and else were - will have a say
on the platform when it is anounced...
