Andrew Young: Obama not black enough. Bill Clinton is as Black as Obama
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 05:56 PM by Perky
By Mike Dorning

Civil rights leader and former Carter Administration U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young says 46-year-old Barack Obama is too young to be president and lacks the network of political allies that can provide important support for a national leader.

“I want Barack Obama to be president,” Young said, pausing for effect, “in 2016.”

“It’s not a matter of being inexperienced. It’s a matter of being young,” said Young, who is 75. “There’s a certain level of maturity ... you’ve got to learn to take a certain amount of (expletive).”

Young made the comments at an appearance on "Newsmakers Live," an urban media forum that interviews prominent Atlanta personalities. The comments were reported by the Associated Press based on excerpts of an undated interview that were posted on Newsmakers Journal, the Newsmakers' web site

Young added that Obama needs a political network to bolster him in office. He noted Hillary Clinton had a well-established network of allies, including her husband, to provide political protection.

“There are more black people that Bill and Hillary lean on,” Young said. “You cannot be president alone. ... To put a brother in there by himself is to set him up for crucifixion. His time will come and the world will be ready for a visionary leadership.”
Young also quipped that “Bill is every bit as black as Barack.”

“He’s probably gone with more black women than Barack,”
Young said of former President Clinton, drawing laughs from a live television audience. Young quickly followed the comment with the disclaimer, “I’m clowning.”

4. UPerky 5 hours ago "You know its not fun dealing with Holligans & Taggers here on DU"
It is brutal, cheap thrills and a game for alot of them. The two responses to these assuallts on our reason is to either try and schout them down or ignore them.

But they are so asinine, so blinded by their mostly contrived rage, that they do not get the hint.

I come to DU for lively debates not shouting matches.

5. Following this logic... Bill Clinton isn't black enough either.
Also, Barack Obama will somehow become more black over the next 8 years.

7. "Nobody who tried to take this man down, didn't try to take us down" - Rangel on Clinton
What is clear here - is that the support he gets from these people with impeccable credentials is based on life time credentials, not skin color + some speeches. Whether in power or not, Clinton has paid his dues and showed the black community his support - from a very young age I recall (when he was a Law school professor in Arkansas). It's why Barak had to call the dogs on the memo campaign - he was offending respected black activists with it.

9. After Hillary, there will not be a Dem President
for 20 more years. She will not be a transformative figure, she will not make the huge changes we need, so her Presidency will be a failure with us still in Iraq and still in economic gloom. The country won't be willing to give Democrats a chance and Obama's opportunity will have passed.

And if Clinton is black, then so is half the country because lots of white people are as poor as Bill.

10. By that logic, Bill Clinton shouldn't have become president.
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 06:13 PM by ProSense
The arguments are becoming more desperate.

Reality: Obama is more black than Bill Clinton. It's a simple fact.

11. Lacks a network of political allies. That is a very good point. When
JFK was president it was not only that he was a charismatic leader who could inspire people but that he had a great staff. Many were the top intellectual leaders in society at the time. No matter who gets in if they cannot pull in the best available advisers of the day then they will not succeed.

12. Ask Obama if he's black enough when he's hailing a cab.
Funny for all their protestations vehemently denying the impression they are race-baiting, the Clinton camp and surrogates keep stepping in it over and over again.

15. All they are doing is reminding you
they are running against the black guy. They can't beat the "change candidate".
But they have a shot at beating "the black guy".

A couple of these each week, just like clockwork.

black radio talk show hosts lately. I guarentee you the Andrew Young point of view is generally not going down well with many many african americans.
