Cook County Democratic Party Endorses Obama
Cook County Democratic Party Endorses Obama

CHICAGO, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cook County Democratic Party today
endorsed U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois for president in the February 5
primary, praising his leadership and strong voice for change in America.

Joseph Berrios, chairman of the Cook County Democratic Party, said the
endorsement was made after a special polling of the ward and township
committeemen.

"We are proud and privileged to endorse Senator Barack Obama for
president. He has long demonstrated leadership in being an advocate for the
people of Illinois and we know he will be a strong voice for change in
America," said Berrios. "The Democratic Party is blessed to have so many
qualified candidates. Yet, Sen. Obama was the clear choice among the
majority of our committeemen."

With Friday's endorsement, the Cook County Democratic Party joins the
Democratic Party of Illinois, as well as several local and statewide
organizations in supporting their "favorite son."

The Cook County Democratic Party consists of 80 city and suburban
committeemen who are elected to non-paid positions to help the Democratic
Party slate candidates for various offices and to lead their organizations
to successful elections.

6. What I am looking for
and have not the skill to find out is whether there is more to these rounds of endorsements than a simple taking of sides for whatever reason. Is there a defection or professional pol revolt working itself into a stop Hillary movement based on assessments her campaign has not proved effective enough to overcome the sacrifice in votes, mandate, coattails and party agenda(from the simple ability to enact ANY to strong disagreements on action and progressivism). They might fear she could prevail for the nomination anyway or weaken a better choice or hobble the primaries into a costly drawn out, divisive affair that will hurt her own candidacy even more.

The signs are not clear about a practical minded rebellion. Some of it seems ideological and the rift between doers and sitters in Congress and in the national campaign.

Any sudden silence or defections among previous Hillary super delegates? there shouldn't be until she loses significantly somewhere soon. This would be hard to tell since the party regulars move damned slow even when shrewdly trying to get ahead of the voters and effect events. So what else is new? they griped haplessly about Carter(second term run) Dukakis, Mondale and Gore without accomplishing much in any way except stoic loyalty even in certain defeat.

I would say myself there is not enough yet to confirm any such theory.
