Obama supporters are running a RACIST campaign ad and Obama REFUSES to condemn it
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 07:11 PM by Herman Munster
He's going to regret this ad ever went up. His entire fallacy of uniting people and hope has been exposed for the bullshit that he is. This is going to hurt him big in California with latinos. Huge backlash coming.

Hillary Clinton does not respect our people. Hillary Clinton supporters went to court to prevent working people to vote this Saturday — that is an embarrassment.

I realize that it's been posted a couple times already, but context would be helpful.

9. Tell us all exactly HOW that ad is racist.
The ad is produced by the group Hillary was trying to disenfranchise. Are you mad at them for beating back Hillary's legal shenanigans...and keeping the right to caucus?

36. Anyone who thinks that a spanish language ad that says:
"Hillary Clinton doesn't respect our people" is referring only to Union members being disenfranchised better be gullable enough to believe that the quote from Bob Johnson...

"when Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood; I won't say what he was doing, but he said it in his book"

...was really about Obama's community organizing. Fair is fair.

42. I'm not buying that. In fact the ad shows otherwise
"Sen. Obama’s campaign slogan is “Si Se Puede” (“Yes We Can”). Vote for a president that respects us, and that respects our right to vote."

“Si Se Puede” is not just a labor or working people's slogan. And the fact that the ad focuses on a Union and working people's issue as the specific supposed afront does not negate the implication that Hillary "does not respect our people" in a racial context. That meme is introduced first and then reenforced at the end.

And even if you chose to ignore that, it is a much more overt attack to say here that Clinton doesn't respect working people than the claim made that she showed insufficient respect to Martin Luther King Jr. The pattern is ugly. Very ugly. It tears at the fabric of Democratic solidarity. Hillary Clinton has earned strong union support, just like she earned strong Black support and strong Hispanic support. A sweeping charge like this only hurts Democrats in general and will hurt us in the General Election.

41. I don't blame the Obama campaign for the ad
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 08:10 PM by Tom Rinaldo
I do blame them for how they are reacting to it. When Clinton supporter Bob Johnson made a veiled attack on Obama it was out of bounds wrong. Hillary admitted it herself. So far Obama's spokesperson seems to be pretending that the line "Hillary does not respect our people" does not have overt racial overtones (which is as believable as Bob Johnson's claim that he was really talking about Obama's community organizing). Instead of distancing Obama's campaign from that message he instead used the occaision to take another swipe at Hillary for running a negative campaign. I'm sorry, but doing that IS negative campaigning. At least admit that Obama's Union supporters chose unfortunate wording - don't make it into another attack on Hillary.

This was playing with matches along racial lines. Those matches need to be stomped on any time they are lit.
