Hillary closing in on Obama in SC!
South Carolina: Obama 38% Clinton 33%

Over the past few days, Hillary Clinton has closed the gap in South Carolina’s Presidential Primary and pulled to within five points of Barack Obama. Last week, Obama was leading by twelve.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in South Carolina shows Obama earning 38% of the vote, Clinton attracting 33%, and John Edwards at 17%.

snip

Eighty percent (80%) have a favorable opinion of Clinton, 77% say the same about Obama, Clinton, and 74% offer a positive assessment of Edwards.

Among African-American voters, 86% have a favorable opinion of Obama while 82% say the same about Clinton. At the same time, 78% of white voters offer a favorable assessment of Clinton. Just 66% of white voters say the same about Obama. In South Carolina, roughly half of the Democratic voters are expected to be African-American.

1. Obama will defeat her in SC, and hopefully in Nevada this Saturday.

4. Maybe, but it's good to remeber those numbers in case he doesn't
and someone yells "recount!" again.

2. That combined with the "diebold" effect should get her a win.

3. This is good news if
the poll is accurate. I've been reduced to hoping that she wouldn't get slaughtered in SC.

6. I expect anything goes. They have open primaries there - GOP-ers vote
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 11:18 AM by robbedvoter
in our primaries - 70% voted Edwards last time (in exit polls - "people who enthusiastically support Bush")

I expect they only poll democrats though - so it's unreliable.

13. MOE +/- 4%
Obama's vote looking firm.

While Obama’s lead has slipped, his support is more solid than Clinton’s at this point in time. Eighty-two percent (82%) of Obama supporters say they are “certain” they will vote for him on January 26. Just 67% of Clinton voters are that “certain” along with 65% of those currently supporting Edwards.

16. Add her win from Michigan and what she's going to do in NV.
And S.C. is looking very good for her.

18. Hillary has spent most of the primary ahead in SC until Iowa.
She is supported by the majority of the upper tier African American politicians in SC, those with the most effective get out the vote networks. If she loses SC it will be a slim margin.

24. I think that you're right!!
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 02:09 PM by Beacool
It was the talk around the water cooler this morning. People commented on how well she had done in the debate and how she was in command of the issues. Mind you that most of these people aren't even her supporters, but they thought that she was the most knowledgeable of the three.

I still think that Obama will win in SC, but I'm hoping for NV. We'll just have to wait until Saturday.

17. WTF is up with Edwards?
He was born in this state, and it is next door to the state he represented in the Senate. Additionally, he won this state by a wide margin in 2004.

23. How exactly is this post trashing Democrats?
I am simply wondering why Senator Edwards isn't doing better in SC. He did very well in Iowa and it appears that he will do well in Nevada as well. It is rather curious why this is not the case in SC. Is this not a reasonable question?

33. Obama is getting 68% of the black vote and Hillary the rest
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 04:01 PM by jackson_dem
That is what is sinking him in South Carolina. He is getting 30% of the white vote but only 4% of the black vote.

34. Why is the white vote going to Edwards rather than Hillary?
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 04:06 PM by Freddie Stubbs
He is a Southerner and well known in the state. I would expect him to do much better with the white voter here than Iowa.
